Members shane Posted March 13, 2011 Members Posted March 13, 2011 If you had to pick one area to swing for the fence, where would you go during late March?
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Busch Stadium Fences are easier at Wrigley. But, I would bet on 13HWY to the dam, maybe in one of the Cows. Around Baxter would be a close 2nd.
techo Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Apparently, wherever I am not. I think some of the biggest fish I have landed were around the Cows too. Good areas down there not anywhere near Aunt's Creek! Tim Carpenter
rps Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Techo, seems to me the set of pictures featuring the largest number of very large fish was posted by Babler a couple years ago. Some place in the James River arm - I remember now. Aunt's Creek wasn't it? My honest answer? I would say far up Kings, James, or Long Creek. Far enough to be out of the daily pressure you see in Aunt's Creek or down by the dam. Some bluff to point transition with a great ambush, deep heavy snag cover, and an easy nearby spawning place that isn't an obvious bed fisherman target. To reach 10+,a fish has to avoid tournament and meat fishers that pull it away from home to weigh it or eat it. Having said that, I will admit my largest TR fish came form the tree tops at the point where the Kings flows into the White. I assume almost everyone reading this topic would fish that transition.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 One of my biggest fish was several years ago at Viola on a stick in March, but the river was running clear and it was a very isolated fish. The deal with the cows is the combination of things all in one spot...river channel, big deep creeks, wood, flat stuff right across the lake. Think you have a better shot at more good ones pulling up when one gets caught down in the bigger water. Also some very big fish in the back end of Schooner at times. Of course we all know Schooner only has released fish in it...
fozzype Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I would have to say "in the water" or maybe "where you find them" In all honesty I would say they are not up any creek - These areas are too pressured when compared to main lake areas. I would say the biggest fish live on offshore sturctures no where near the bank. These big fish only come to the bank to spawn and then go back to their deep water haunts. B. Foz

My votes goes to the Dam Area.. Alot of big fish play and live in that area, but the whole lake is getting unreal again for larger fish in the population.. Had one time I was on a bluff wall with the dam in sight, jigging spoons and just playing with my electronics.. Started to reel my spoon up to reset, looked over the side as the spoon was coming up and out of know where this MONSTER spotted bass comes up and just stops right in the front of the spoon, few small twitches and nothing.. I thought it was a Drum at first or something of that size, then it turned and and I saw the black line and it swam away.. Heart just stopped, all I knew I just seen a fish that was a strong state class spot.. Point being they are there!! Good Fishing Don Capt. If I where you and I was after a big fish,I would fish after dark. The next full moon is March 19th and the water temp ought to be high enough for the big fish to feed at night.I would throw a big jig or a black single blade spinnebait.I think I'm gonna try my hand at some night fishing this moon. The best nights ought to be the 3 nights before till the 3 nights after the full moon. Then around new moon can be awesome also. As far as where.I believe anywhere on the lake in the clear water has the potential for big fish. I agree with Foz as far as there are so many fish that spend most of their lives in deep water on these Ozark lakes and only come shallow to spawn.I also believe these fish spawn deeper and cannot be seen.
