Hey guys. Anybody out there using a Drop Shot rig? If yes, what rod/reel/line/tackle set-up do you go with? What conditions do find the rig successful? I've heard rocky bottom, clear lakes is the place.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

ditto for a Shaky Head Rig? I've heard cold, pressured water is the place.

Again, all inputs are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

I will throw a shakey head just about anywhere. I will drop shot only if I'm in someone elses boat. I have caught fish with a drop shot but it is the most boring fishing I've ever done. I fish to have fun not be bored.

I used to drop shot. I found it very effective around the edges of hydrilla when I was a few hundred miles south of here. Around here I have done it on ledges but it like stated is boring for me.

Shaky is what I do in the prespawn just about any day now as I hate jerkbaits.

why do you hate jerkbaits?

I need to try the shakey head next time the water is super clear.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Awesome information, guys.

In regards to Shaky Head: do you use a spinning rig or baitcaster? I've heard light line is the way to go.

Thanks!

I fish both Shaky and drop shot all over the place. I have caught good limits of fish on both Lake Ozark and Truman as well as Bull and Table Rock.. They both work best in the spring and fall in clear water lakes for me. But that does not stop me from using a drop shot rig in place of a Carolina rig... I use it in the same places I would use a Carolina rig. I use light Line and Spinning rigs for both. It just make it a lot easier to cast a light rig when the wind is blowing.

It's almost exclusively a spinning rod type deal, though I've thrown a shakey head in creeks with a baitcaster before. I'm building a shakey head rod as we speak. MHX hot shot blank (7ft. extra fast spinning)with Tennessee grip and micro guides from the 4th through the tip. Looking forward to using it when the wind finally stops blowing 30.
