ok guys. Need some help. If I have no fishing lures, bait, etc, (which is the case). And I don't have an unlimited bank account, (which is the case). If you could only buy 10 lures, what 10 would you pick for your tackle box? Fishing @ the Rock; could be fishing for anything. What 10 lures is a must for my tackle box? I am so looking forward to getting out on the lake this weekend! No family commitments for me this weekend except for getting the boat out on the lake.I so hate those of you out on the lake today and tomorrow- looks like great weather. Joe

I'll bite first...

1) 4",5" single tail smoke grubs and 1/8oz to 5/16oz ball or dart heads with good hooks.

2) Brown & purple or PB&J 5/16oz round head and 1/2oz Football jigs, chunks or twin tails to go with them.

3) 1/2oz white jig spoons, war eagle or hazie dazie.

4) Swimming minnows in smoke, pearls.

5) Little green worms...fish doctors, french fry, finesse worms. Finesse weights, stops, and hooks to go with them. 1/16oz to 1/4oz shakey heads for them as well.

6) Wiggle warts, craw colors.

7) Rogues/sticks, flashy and purple/chart.

8) 1/2oz spinnerbait, white/shad, with small willow blades for fishing wind.

9) Small super spook.

10) White or gray roadrunner.

You could stop at #5 and fish all year round, and catch all 3 bass, whites, gogs, and crappie.

I would agree with his list. The fish doctors and some terminal tackle can get you a long ways on a short budget. There are still a lot of fish caught on a c-rigged fish doctor, texas rigged crawdad/worms and split shot set ups. You can also set up the drop shot with that equipment in the summer.

I started a few years back with that exact equipment. I think Babbler is the one who suggested it. Over the years I added a lot (insane amount according to Mrs.) of stuff. The second stuff I accumulated were the Eakins jigs and double tail trailers. You can swim them, drag them, jig them.....almost anything. If you tie a good know you don't lose a ton of them either. They last and last.

I would add a few top water baits such as the red fin next. Nothing more fun than catching top water in th morning! Sex does take a close second though.

Thanks so much for the tips on lures!! Now if I can just understand what each one means such as #2- PB&J- how do u keep the bread on the line? :) Joe

Sorry for the localism...PB&J is a color- peanut butter and jelly. It is kind of a pumpkin/black stripe silicone with purple crystal flake, some junebug silicone, and various other colors based on who did the cooking. "Little green worms" is meant to include the various shades and flakes of green pumpkin and watermelon.

If you are in Kimberling just run up to either of the shops on 13. They can set you up with what is going based on season, current bite. That will let you piece-meal some of it together, and spread the $ out. Those of us who have to trailer in from the heathen reaches of KS have to carry it all with us at once.

If anything else didn't make sense let us know.

Great list, only thing id add would be 3" mister twister grubs in white on 1/8th oz jighead any color. Finest multi species lure i can think of, ive caught everything from sharks and pike, to cats and crappie on the ol standby

I'd have to add the ole' Gene Lawrew 8" hooktail worm in Red Flake and also the salt craw in black with blue tips.

Salt Craw especially for night fishing when the days get too darn hot. Either one of these baits on a 3/0 or 4/0 with a 3/8 bullet.

Also love a good Chompers 5" Twin Tail Hula Grub in nearly any color, but if I had to pick one I'd say Green Pumpkin. Rigged up with a 1/4oz weedless (single wire) stand up jig. Kentucky's especially seem to love this rig.

I'll add a few others that are a necessity at the right times::

--Regular Sized Spook (Chrome or Bone color) for topwater.

--10 in Berkley Power Worm (Black, Blue Fleck, Dark Colors) Summertime fishing particularly during low light and NIGHT

--3/8 oz War Eagle spinnerbaits (More Stand Out color for the more dirty water) for wind in spring and fall

--3/4 to 7/8 oz White Jigging Spoons for Late Summer through fall

--Salt and Pepper Grubs

--Zoom finesse worms on a light shakey head in Green Pumpkin or Watermelon Candy for those post spawn bass

--DD 22's (Sparkly Sexy Shad, Lavender Shad) for summer

--JIG!! Whatever you like (Eakins, Chompers, Omega) Darker Colors better in dirtier creeks, plain brown, pumpkin, or PBJ in lighter water. 5/16 to 7/16 oz ball heads on ledges and bluffs. 3/8 oz good for flippin or hopping shallow or dirtier water.

--ANYTHING in mid to late April.

Good luck!

Set the hook first, ask questions later...

Makes you think a little:

1. Slider Grub in Pearl with Jig Head

2. Fish Doctor or Centipede (Green Pumpkin)

3. DD-22 in Sexy Shad

4. Small Spook (Bone)

5. 4" Chigger Craw

6. Wiggle Wart

7. 1/2 once White Spinner Bait

8. 10" Power Worm

9. Spoon (1/2 oz. War Eagle)

10. Tube

And yes I fish a jig, but they are not in my top ten - Go ahead and hate on me if you want.
