stlfisher Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I can understand Kansas being easy to recruit for the tradition in basketball but don't see much if any difference between Arkansas or Missouri recruiting wise.
hoglaw Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Fayetteville is in an MSA that is three times larger than Columbia's, which is still larger than Lawrence (which everyone agrees is a hole I think). Fayetteville is ridiculously beautiful, with far better looking women than either of the other two (this is a proven fact). The University of Arkansas has a better fanbase than Mizzou (my opinion), and doesn't play in the Big-Howevermanyareleft until Texas decides something else needs to happen. Our facilities are top notch, though I've had no reason to visit either of the other schools. I'd say we're academically better down here, but I have no basis for that other than having attended the Walton College of Business myself - though the basket weaving and communications programs are probably on par at all three schools which would be the more relevant comparison. I'm told we have a good keniesiology/PT department but I don't know. I feel like it would be easier to recruit here, but I'm definitely biased. I know it took me one trip each to WashU and SLU to know that I didn't want to go to school at either, but again, women were my thing. I'm sure we could all debate which school is better/worse all we want, but I know Northwest Arkansas is routinely voted among the best places in the country to live. I think most athletes have a pretty good experience here and lots stick around despite a stark lack of "cultural diversity." Does Mizzou have a coach yet?
Members Doc Tom Posted March 29, 2011 Members Posted March 29, 2011 Maybe he'll recruit Nolan to be his assistant now

It is looking like it may be Matt Painter from Purdue which I would be very happy with. We will see what happens over the next few days. Wash U or SLU are not in good areas, but have there own appeal namely academics. I am Mizzou fan so I am going to be biased, but I think Columbia is a great college town, but I assume everyone thinks that of there preferred university etc. Lot's of fun tailgating and going to games etc. Maybe Mizzou and Arkansas schedule each other...not likely...but would be fun to watch.
Quillback Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Yeah it would be great to have an annual Mizzou vs AR game, last few years AR has creampuffs on the schedule for the first 10 games or so, we could have some great regional rivalry games instead, AR vs Mizzou, AR vs Memphis, AR vs Kansas, and AR vs Wichita State. Or have an annual regional tournament before conference play begins.
stlfisher Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Yeah, I don't see why they don't schedule each other in the first 10 games of season. It isn't like football in which losing one game can ruin your year....you have 30 more games to make up for a loss. Schedule a few gimmie's and play a few good teams before conferance play. It was fun to watch Mizzoui play Georgetown earlier this year, but why not schedule a few teams close to you that you don't regularly play? Tennesee, Kentucky, and Arkansas all border Missouri and would be fun to watch. Maybe rotate them through every 3 years or so.
Members BrowningFisherman Posted April 4, 2011 Members Posted April 4, 2011 Hindsight on all this sucks I would love to squeeze arkansas into Mizzou's schedule next year I would love to see our seniors tear him apart, either way we lost a good coach and gained a questionable one at best, the way he carried his program was classy, the way he left; was anything but classy. As far as that big time razorback recruiting class and "that kid from STL" good luck with keeping him out of trouble only if you can fudge his transcripts and get him in. Either way its a sad time to be a tiger basketball fan, good thing I'm graduating.
stlfisher Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Yeah a tough few weeks for Mizzou. Time will tell on the new hire...totally out of left field if you ask me. I almost feel sorry for the guy...he seems doomed before he get's a chance. Winning can change that though...guess we will see.
