Members DaveMac Posted March 26, 2011 Members Posted March 26, 2011 My family is staying at Riverwoods in early June - planning to canoe on a Monday. Looking for suggestions about which outfitters you recommend and what a good day trip might be. I'd like to do some fishing - some smallmouth, some trout - so starting above Bennett and finishing below seems good, but I've never floated this river before. I've contacted NRO and they start at their place below Bennett and go either 7 or 14 miles. Any details about this stretch would be welcome.
Gavin Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'd call up Redbeard's and have them haul you up to Bennett for a float back down to Redbeards..think its about 7 miles.
FishinCricket Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I would suggest you float from Bennett public access to NRO (if you wanna fish hard) or Barclay/Oldham/Redbeards (if you wanna fish and float)... Either float will take you right past Riverwood (about 1 mile past BSSP put in), which is neat.. (there's no fish in the run next to Riverwood  ) Swimming crawdads work great for both of your targeted species the smaller the better... (dark red ones are the only ones I've ever struck out on, but I like the light colored ones the best)... Streamers if your flipping flies.. Good luck, have fun... cricket.c21.com

Members DaveMac Posted March 27, 2011 Author Members Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks for your help, guys. I'm a Buffalo River vet and I can't wait to see some new scenery. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks, oneshot - I hadn't heard about adventures.
Members ttwoods Posted April 3, 2011 Members Posted April 3, 2011 You'll get scenery alright. Rent a "girls gone wild" video and you can get a taste of the party crowd on that stretch of the river through the summertime. It makes me sick. I floated that stretch last summer and I have to say, I will never do it again through the party season. Good Luck! http://www.anglertournaments.com
Members DaveMac Posted April 4, 2011 Author Members Posted April 4, 2011 Thanks for the warning! We're going on a Monday in an effort to make the best of it. May end up feeling like you but we'll see.
podum Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Ill be there the weekend of May 19-21. We fish the Bennett access, NRO, to Barclay. Ill post a report before your trip. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.

Is it just me or is it getting a bit stuffy in here? lol Nah, I know what you mean... I always float it during the weekdays cause the weekends are a sheet of aluminum (canoes)... cricket.c21.com
Members DaveMac Posted April 4, 2011 Author Members Posted April 4, 2011 Thanks, podum... I'll look forward to your report. To FishinCricket... Come to think of it, the way ttwoods describes it doesn't sound too bad. In between casts you may hear me yelling, "Show me your ti...! Uh, sorry honey, just saying hello to the nice drunk college girls...
