My friend Dirty Ed wrote a song about a "famous" gunfighter, whose name was Don and whose only problem was that he loved to drink beer. The last part of the refrain of the song was "Drink all night...Pistol Don".

Think about it... :have-a-nice-day:

That goes back to the days when everyone was allowed to carry a weapon. Some would get drunk and pull out their guns and start shooting. Well, the citizens of the towns, states and country said the only way to keep them from shooting eveything up was to take the guns away.

I give it about a hundred years (or less) 'till a bunch will start getting drunk and think they are in the old west and start shooting everything up again. Then those guns will not be allowed to be carried for another 100 years or so. Then someone will start crying about their constitutional rights and demand to carry guns again.

Somehow we never learn from past mistakes.

there is a difference. What you talk about was ordinances that differ from town to town. Gun control "laws" started federally to try to stop gangsters, which of course never works.

Someone on another forum has a signature that says "9xxxxxx CC owners didn't shoot anyone today" or something like that.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

When they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them.

When CCW first starting taking hold in certain states, the thoughts were that there will be shoot outs in the streets between gun carrying citizens. It has had the opposite effect, crime rates have went down. Offenses by legal CCW carry individuals have been very, very low using the weapons they carry daily. No drunken bar room shootouts. Alcohol and guns are still a no no. You can't carry them into most bars and it is illegal to carry one intoxicated almost everywhere.

Since most states have seen the positive effects of citizen carry, it just goes to reason they will let it go a little further.

I still stand behind a background check for the purchase of a handgun to prevent those that don't need to own one from getting one. But if you pass that and the government says you are good to own one, then why limit the carry method?

Personally, I don't see the need to carry a gun anywhere except out hunting.

What do you need protection from? Are you such a wimp that you feel threatened by the little 11 year old girl standing in line behind you at the candy store?

I think the whole thing is a big farce and only goes to push the agenda of the NRA.

If you feel you need protection somewhere, don't go there stupid.

Just my 2¢.

Typically, I don't go there. And why would anyone be threatened by a little girl in the candy store, the threat would be the old guy stalking her.

But, when I am outdoors, I do run across the stray feral dog that needs a lead enema sometimes, nothing like a pit bull on the loose looking for someone to chew on. And, when I am outdoors fishing a stream that is inhabited by individuals that may feel that I might be worth a 12 pack in town that night if they could get to my wallet, then the lead may come in handy there too. Or maybe driving thru an area of town and someone decides to jump in and carjack me?

Last summer on the way camping with my daughter around daylight, I came along an individual passed out on the side of the road in a remote area. Instead of stopping to help, I whipped out my cell phone and dialed it in. Local sheriff deputy was 45 minutes away, minimum, since she was on call that Sat. morning. Later, in the next few months, there were several reports of the same instance leading to a car jacking that lead to the car owners getting banged up, they got out and tried to help.

If you don't feel the need to carry a gun, then by all means, don't. Just don't expect me to save your butt, I only carry to protect myself, family, and friends. Others can wait for a cop, I'll make the call for you, you can sit there and wait for them.

I know my family and I will feel safer when an older, white, educated, middle class suburban male saunters into my local Applebee's with a 9mm Glock strapped to his side. He'll protect us from those random acts of violence that seem to occur all the time. Especially in the mean streets of Fenton, where I live.

It's funny though. The only people clamoring for conceal and carry are white folks who live in relative comfort, ease, safety and security. Our constitutional right dontcha know. People in Wellston don't seem to care. East St. Louis. No. Nueva Laredo. Don't care. Newark NJ. Please. Compton CA. Right.

So go ahead Clint. Strap your piece on, as is your right. I'll feel better knowing you're around when I shop for plastic bins at Wal-Mart. Or when I play poker with a bunch of ne'er do-well ranch hands at my local saloon. The sheriff for Big Whiskey doesn't like guns, though. Be careful.

Or the quack with the gun that somehow got past the CC permit system.

But wait...

You don't want a permit system. You want any wacko with a gun running around carrying because it's his "Constitutional Right."
