Mitch f Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I like Norman crankbaits. They will catch all of our bass species in the ozarks, and a variety of sunfish. I will usually bring a couple baby Ns, deep diving and regular, and some middle Ns. There are a lot of variables in choosing a crankbait, but I ALWAYS have a white crankbait with a black back in my tackle box. If the water is stained, or a little muddy, go with brighter colors, i.e., chartreuse. Agreed, Norman crankbaits are probably the best American baits across the board, I also really like the bandit 200 series, and of course the wiggle wart "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
creek wader Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 All of the above. Also, bring along a Rapala floating or shallow diver. 2" or 3 1/2". wader
Gavin Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hook tangles are not a big issue..but a #6 works allot better than a #8 for bass. Not a fan of the floating raps smaller than 3.5" or so...3.5-5.5" seems to be the optimal range for minnow baits. Think the fish like to eat stonerollers allot.
joeD Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 It helps to have your crankbaits cover different depths,i.e., shallow, middle, deep. Lure action is more important than color I think.
RSBreth Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 One that I consider a "must have" is the Bomber 4A in any bright color. Works great for me. Really any shallow to medium diving crank in a couple of colors is worth a try. What you decide to throw is also dictated by what type of rod/reel combo you plan to use - most smaller cranks don't weigh much and are harder to cast very far with casting gear.

Yeah, I thought about it after I posted. I use the 2" on "skinny" water, with smaller fish. On larger water I use the 3 1/2" or 4 3/4", or whatever size it is. I'm a big fan of them, because I rarely fish water deeper than a few feet. Still, I've had very good luck with them. I guess you use what your comfortable with. wader
