mwfischer Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Ditto to what Phil said. "Learn to fish with jigs" This was the first year I committed to using a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig on our yearly trip to Taney in March and when the fishing was good, I would consistently catch bigger (15-18") and one very nice 23" rainbow on a sculpin 1/8oz, while the rest of our group fished spoons and others and stayed in the 10-12" range of rainbows. Very true about the 2# flouro or mono as well. Caught that 23" on 2# Berkeley Vanish (Best line I've ever used)
ollie Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Jig Fish with meat candy! Also learn how to present it correctly. You can have 2 guys fishing the same jig but sometimes only one of them are catching that's because the one guy figured out the presentation. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Bman Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I spin fish for trout using small jerk baits , rooster tails, and powerbait. Now when I fish I land alot of little ones and the occasional bigger one like 17 inches and up. Is their a way to target the larger ones of is it just a matter of whats around that day? The new state record Brown was caught on power bait... The only good line is a tight line
Members Fredrick Posted April 11, 2011 Author Members Posted April 11, 2011 It's not that I don't like browns I just didn't go for them thought they were too hard to catch.I must admit I was to afraid to go to upper taney como and use bigger tackle . I guess that's just me . People love to give me nasty looks for not using a fly rod. I don't wanna be immature and give people the finger but its about to that point with these elitists . I feel the need to say something nasty but as a member of this forum i feel that i represent this forum and i should be polite. I would love to scream nasty stuff jagermeister anyone?
