stone9-7=2 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 F.D.'s is excellent if you like fat & verry little meat which was tough along with an hour wait for food after we were seated so yea it a great place. Didn't try the wings so won't say anything about them. May have been an off night for them don't know & don't care i didn't pay for them to have an off night, not my problem. 9-7=2.
SilverMallard Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I was down there last night. Met some people at Waxy O'Sheas for dinner and then walked the Landing and watched the fountain show at 10pm. The Irish pub is open, but not completed. They're still waiting on the shades for their windows...which all face the evening sun. It's a bit warm in there. The staff is not adequately trained. But they have a good selection of draft beers and ales. The fish and chips is decent...best I've had in this area. Prices weren't bad at all. I did see some cosmetic cement damage and a few obvious repairs. But not a lot. Being in the real estate biz for over a decade, I can tell you that cosmetic settling damage is very normal in this part of the country in both residential and commercial settings. Almost every new construction we have been involved with has had to have the builder return at least a few times to repair cosmetic settling damage. That includes our own home. So I don't know how much we fault the developers on this count. I do know enough about major construction like this to know that compaction of fill can cause some serious problems if a project is "rushed." And it has always seemed to me that they didn't worry much about compaction and settling during the fill process. They started building on it while they were still filling ground. The fountain show was excellent. I don't understand how anyone could complain about it. And there must have been 300 people there just watching the thing. And when it was over, they applauded and cheered. Which I thought was funny. It's a computer and some machines. Why applaud? But we obviously weren't the only ones who were impressed. Members Champ Posted August 2, 2006 Members Posted August 2, 2006 I've eaten famous Daves in other cities and really like their BBQ. I tried it out the first week it opened here and I agree the food wasn't good and service was bad. I went back 2 weeks ago and it was great food and better service. Branson Meadows is a ghost town because non-retail businesses moved in. OTC, Skaggs Accounting, etc. The place is mostly rented out. Plus, there is a ton of undeveloped land in the area. Check LA or NY for examples of "no more room".
WebFreeman Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 But why was the space available at Branson Meadows? I think they'd much rather have filled that w/ retail and than office. True about LA and NY, but neither are marketed as an outdoorsie place to be. There are a lot of places more crowded, but the whole point of Branson is stuff to do in a picturesque/scenic area. My only point is development w/o very long-range vision is dangerous. SDC is lucky because they have nature built-in to the park, but the rest of Branson/Tri-Lakes isn't. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 There has to be little doubt that they are running away from what brung 'em. Aside from SDC, I can't think of anything new that is aimed at families, in fact they may be losing some. One got hit by the Titanic. It is slowly changing over to an affluent adult venue, which is fine, although I miss the old Branson, but they should quit using the term family destination to depress any competition. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 2, 2006 Root Admin Posted August 2, 2006 The Meadows never did do well... never filled up. Lease space is fairly cheap too. BL has pulled people in from going and spending at other locations. The merchants out at The Mill close to Meadows all said their sales dropped big time the day the Landing opened. Others will, if they haven't already, feel the pinch too. I don't think there's many people from outside 60 miles that have come to Branson this summer strictly because or remotely because of the Landing. The big draw will be the convention center. That's what the Branson alderman are banking (betting) on.
Members Champ Posted August 2, 2006 Members Posted August 2, 2006 New family things to do in Branson in the last year or 2: Landing has a playground area that lots of kids use. Aqua Center- actually used by a lot of vacationers. Ozark Mountain ducks. New place for the butterfly emporium. Darren Romeo magic. Family fun center- laser tag, indoor paintball, some new game, etc. The new dinasour mini golf. The balloon. I'm sure there are many more NEW family things I'm missing.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 New??? Champ what on that list, besides a playground that I'm sure isn't something children haven't seen more than once, is new? SDC put in Celebration City and I understand they added a lot of rides in SDC specifically for younger people, which is defiantly a family venture, but I would find it hard to believe that the city fathers had anything to do with that. Ducks new?? They may have added some new Ducks to the fleet. Aqua Center, nothing new. New housing for the Butterflies, just that, nothing new except for the butterfies. Darren Romeo, his backers conveniently managed to put out a rumor of animal cruelty for his competition. Still a singing magician probably isn't any different than Kirby to kids, nothing really new. The next 2 I'm not familiar with, so I'll give you those. the Balloon? not new is it? At least one's been around for years. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Champ Posted August 2, 2006 Members Posted August 2, 2006 I stand by my post. (Except for my spellng). I don't usually debate, but: Quote: "Aside from SDC, I can't think of anything new that is aimed at families,... " I just listed a few new options for families. Look them up, they all have been created or built in the last 2 years and are geared towards families. New duck ride outfit still has ducks, but different lake, different route, different atmosphere. D.R. is another magician, but I know the kids like him and the Jeff Gordon angle. Besides, if they see Kirby 1 year, I'm sure the parents wouldn't mind seeing the D.R. magic show the next to mix it up. For example, I suppose you could say that Stafford's show is the same as the Pressley's because they both have music and consist of family members. To me they are completely different experiences.
Thom Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I will be in Branson next week for seven days. I am trying to keep an open mind on the landing but I miss the the walk in the park toward Roark. We liked to pack a picnic and go there at least one day while visiting. I am taking two familys with me so I will give some feedback on what they think when we return. One family is from a small town near Kansas City area and one from Lake St. Louis. I just wish the redevelopement would had not been so drastic but there really wasn't much left down there.
