Members Jack Hollister Posted April 25, 2011 Members Posted April 25, 2011 We had reservations at Montauk this weekend and canceled because of the rain and severe storms. I have to say, Im glad we did. I read in another post that there was an evacuation order that came around 4:15 am on Saturday morning. Did the campground flood? We would have been in loop 4. This is the first year that we made reservations to camp in April. And this is the reason (storms) why I have always wated until late May for our first outing. Crazy weather, hope everyone is ok who were hit hard by the storms. Jack

I called down there to see if it was flooded in the park and the lady told me they evacuated the campground Friday and weren't allowing any camping Saturday. She said that it was "back in its banks" Saturday morning, but that was before the gauge shot up again. Crazy! Hope everyone made it out too....scary. Jim
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Not there this time but was there two years ago when they shut er down. The main reason they told us, was the bridge to get over to the campground side of the river. If it goes out you can't get out. Pete
Gavin Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 We got down Wednesday & left in a hurry on Saturday AM...looked like everyone made it out in time. Not an experience I'd like to repeat...We were in campsite 250 with a good water view...came up about 3' in the hour it took us to get hitched up & on the road. Starting to come over the White Oak hole bridge as we were on our way out at 5am. A couple pics from this weekend. Thursday AM rocked...fished for about two hours and the big ones were on the prod. Around 15-20 fish...4 better than 18", best around 22". Ended the morning with a 20" or so male that was badly hooked..ate the whole enchilada and had hooks embedded in its throat, tongue, and eyeball..Wouldnt have been a good release so that ended my morning. Then some fishing in the park with the kids. My oldest reeled in 5-6, and the youngest reeled in her first. Oldest is learning to cast. Friday fishing was poor. Stayed in and tried to get the kids up for the buzzer but they wanted to puddle splash & explore instead.... got em to the water around 9am and they lasted about an 45 minutes with no action..Time for something else so we drove down to Welch after lunch and hiked up to the spring....Took a rod and caught a couple on a crome Kastmaster spoon...need to fish that lure more often. Other than the evac...it was a fun weekend. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/fbx/?set=a.1850250909830.101933.1647470288&l=100f262da6
Members Jack Hollister Posted April 25, 2011 Author Members Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks guys for the replies. I hated to cancel but I guess that was the right decision. Glad to hear you had a good day on Thursday. Oh well, theres always next time.
Members Jack Hollister Posted April 25, 2011 Author Members Posted April 25, 2011 I just checked the Missouri State Parks website and Montauk campground is temporarily closed due to area flooding. If anyone is planning on camping at the park, may want to check in advance.
Andrew324 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I was down at the park around 7:30-9am on Saturday 4/23. When we first got there the bridge was closed, but then the water dropped and we got to the store to pick up tags. It did start pouring pretty hard around 9am and I was catching fish on nymphs and globalls, but it started to lightning hard and we left, went to Salem, then finished the afternoon at Meramec. Both the Current and Meramec were blown up, brown, and turbulent. Andrew Nelson Outdoor Adventures Graduate Assistant Campus Recreation Missouri State University
