gonefishin Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 What does everyone think about having Riverboat Gambling on Taney? I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Rusty Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Rainbow, never, say never. Stranger things have happened.
Dutch Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I hope they get it. Those people in Rockaway Beach have been suckin' the hind tit since the riot back in the early 60s.
Greg Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I wouldn't be in favor of that at all. I think whenever gambling is in an area there are certain undesirable elements that generally come with it. As it stands the Branson/Taneycomo area is a pretty nice family oriented place. I just recently took a business trip to Vegas. I had never been there and didn't care for the place at all and neither did my wife. I've heard it said that Vegas is the place for family vacations but I would never take my kids there. Just my opinions, Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
rainbow Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Rainbow, never, say never. Stranger things have happened. I usually don't but I don't think the city fathers or the religious right are going to let that happen in Branson. The family money is good for the area and they don't want the big casino's to get it all. I work to hard to spend my money gambling but if'n you want to blow money have at it.
crappiefisherman Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 try to find a domain name not registered that has anything to do with branson, and gambling, casinos, etc. the bets are already out [ [
Members Bill McC Posted July 26, 2006 Members Posted July 26, 2006 Really wouldn't matter to me if they had gambling, already have the cliental for it. I really hope the folks in Rockyaway Beach get a break BillMc
strangercreek Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I don't want to see it happen either, but where there's big money, there is corruption, payoffs, etc. If the big money slobs want it bad enough they will make it happen unfortunately. Same thing happened in KC years ago. Some people don't realize that the actual monetary "social" costs are more than the revenue generated (even if given to the schools). When I say "social" costs I am still talking about actual dollars: increased crime, lost work time, bankruptcies and financial hardships faced by the families of gambling addicts, law enforcement, drugs, whores, etc. etc. etc. (saying the costs are more might be exaggerating, but very high none the less). Just what SW MO needs to go along with the ever evolving meth war!
Members swinslow Posted July 26, 2006 Members Posted July 26, 2006 Wouldn't put it past the "city fathers". I have only lived here for 22 months, but even I have learned that money seems to lead all decisions of the city aldermen.
