Pour Dennis Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 The corps office has canceled all fishing tournaments for the next 14 days. They have also closed all of the corps parks and ramps to keep boaters off of the lake. However, I did see a couple of boats on the water here in Shell Knob. Why these guys wanna go out in this is beyond me. Do they not realize the danger that lurks just below the surface with all of the debris coming down river?
skeeter Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Safety first with all the floating debris just under the surface. Observed several tournament type wrapped boats this afternoon with dual power poles running just about wide open despite trees, limbs, trash etc. all over the water. Then along comes a big play boat throwing the usual high wake. Many docks have been taken in as far as their cables will allow and are putting a lot of stress on anchors, cables, structure etc. 933.17 at 1900 hours. Going higher.
Members Tyler Posted April 27, 2011 Members Posted April 27, 2011 I agree that safety comes first. Thursday is my day off this week and I was hoping to hit the water. I was thinking about heading to aunts creek area to troll around and flip. Are all the corps ramps going to Be closed? Members timr0123 Posted April 27, 2011 Members Posted April 27, 2011 We were down at the dam today and the water was up but glass smooth and not hardly a stray leaf on the water. Saw several boat out on the water as well as the Branson Belle. Went across the Hwy 13 bridge and saw lots of debris floating and slightly stained water. Went over the Shell Knob while tonights storm was coming through and it was chocolate milk and debris everywhere.
Members Falcon Posted April 27, 2011 Members Posted April 27, 2011 I agree 100% with their decision. Are they canceling tournaments on Bull Shoals and Beaver too? Does anyone have a link to the official announcement?
Sam Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 We're going to have to watch extra careful for floating debris for a long time after this, and sometimes it's things I wouldn't think of. A few years back, about a week after a big rain, I was going full speed down the main lake channel in deep water. There was a little ripple on the water, but I went right by a circle in the water that had no ripple. It looked strange - a circle about 6' in diameter where the water was smooth. I got curious and circled back to look at it. It was a big round hay bale floating on its side about an inch below the surface, not visible at all. I hate to think what would have happened if I'd hit that thing, and I went right beside it flat-out. Let's all be careful when we get back out there!
abkeenan Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Sam- I also remember a couple of years ago seeing quite a few of those floating bails of hay. Dangerous stuff for sure. Can't imagine how much that bail weighs wet and what it would do to the hull or motor. I also think Capt. Don had mentioned he had ran over a cement park picnic table when the water was this high. Just a lot of stuff you wouldnt think/expect to see out there floating or below the water.

Gary Haupt with the Water Patrol Division of the Missouri State Highway Patrol said that all events on Table Rock Lake have been cancelled through Sunday, May 1. The Marine Patrol cited public safety and property damage concerns as the main reasons for revoking the permits that are needed to hold tournaments on the lake. Where did you hear that all tournaments cancelled by Corps for 14 days? I cannot find an official announcement on that, do you have a link to something?
skeeter Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 pro's dont pay for their boats. Maybe not, but we all pay to rescue their butts when they hit something at 70 mph in flood conditions.
