I just bought a new bass hunter ex (2 man boat, 9 /12 ft) with a minn kota endura 38# motor. Can anyone give me some input or suggestion on what size battery would be best (just for getting around, no fish finders or anything else). I plan to use it to get to different spots with my fly rods, but might want to do some trolling as well.

Make sure you get a deep-cycle battery and not a cranking battery.

To make a decision regarding capacity determine how long you will use it between recharges and how much weight you are willing to carry. They are full of lead, you know.

I would go with an Optima M24 12v deep cycle battery. You could use an M27 but that will weigh more. Since that boat is so small, the M24 should do just fine.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Agreed, those batteries still work after many cycles and are quite small in size

I've always heard that one should use the batteries they put in the motorized scooters like the one's at Wal-Mart. Many charges, running a motor that should carry a heavy load, need to last a long time. I should do this, but never really think of it.

I just use a lawn mower battery. I get a couple of years use out of them.

Those are "deep cycle" batteries.
