strangercreek Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I just bought a new bass hunter ex (2 man boat, 9 /12 ft) with a minn kota endura 38# motor. Can anyone give me some input or suggestion on what size battery would be best (just for getting around, no fish finders or anything else). I plan to use it to get to different spots with my fly rods, but might want to do some trolling as well.
David Unnerstall Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Make sure you get a deep-cycle battery and not a cranking battery. To make a decision regarding capacity determine how long you will use it between recharges and how much weight you are willing to carry. They are full of lead, you know.
flytyer57 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 I would go with an Optima M24 12v deep cycle battery. You could use an M27 but that will weigh more. Since that boat is so small, the M24 should do just fine. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

KATroutman13 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I've always heard that one should use the batteries they put in the motorized scooters like the one's at Wal-Mart. Many charges, running a motor that should carry a heavy load, need to last a long time. I should do this, but never really think of it. I just use a lawn mower battery. I get a couple of years use out of them.

KATroutman13 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Those are "deep cycle" batteries. And they are really light, don't take up much space and are powerful.
