Well, at least it didn't fall on the house.

Yep. We cut out some silver maples last summer that may have ended up on the house had they still been there. Lucky us. A cherry tree clipped the corner of the house as it came down but no damage. The roof was damaged by the wind.

Geez -- sorry to hear about all your trouble. Hope you bounce back quickly.

You've got the right idea -- make something special from that old catalpa tree. Maybe several things for all the folks in your family.
