gitnby Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Gonna give it a try this weekend and was wondering if the Float n Fly might be worth a try? Since the old shoreline is in about 15' of water, maybe dangling that thing with a 10-12' leader would get some action? I know down at Dale Hollow, they use it during the Spring for big smallies.
motoman Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 My understanding is that it shines more in the colder winter months; but I'd say absolutely give it a try. I did when I was down 3 weeks ago, and caught fish on it out of the back of the boat; while I was casting out the front. I just let it drag behind at a distance vs. working it, but we still caught fish on it! You'd be surprised. ;-)
dtrs5kprs Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Spoke with Bill Richey about the f&f for quite a while last week during one of the deluges. Said one of the folks he showed it to was using it right up until the water came up. I played a little with it after the rise, but just could not get the wind to stay off of me. Same idea, outside the bushes and over the old line. He thought the usual 12' leader would be about right. Bound to be some K's in those outside trees and bushes that would eat it, or maybe some of the docks. Billy and I kicked around the idea that it doesn't stop working because of water temp, just that other things become more fun and/or efficient to throw once it warms up.

I never did pull out the F&F this weekend! Was going to, but was havin too much fun with the rig and jig. Plus, with the wind, it would be a nightmare trying to cast or get a snag out of the tree and bush line! I ain't that good with it yet! My nephew uses it down on Dale Hollow and Reelfoot this time of year. He cuts the leader down to 6-8' and drags it and shakes it over spawning areas on a slow retrieve. He claims the smallies will eat it up.
