ollie Posted December 23, 2005 Author Posted December 23, 2005 Oh arkie traveler, how should I answer that? Actually I have caught one that was 16"+, haven't caught one any bigger. Then again maybe I suck!? I have seen pics of nice trout caught out of there and knew someone that caught a trophy out of there back in the 80's. It could be possible for there to be a nice fish or two in there, but I haven't chanced upon it. I did catch a nice greenie out of there! Of course the stocked fish are easy to catch and sometimes you can catch a holdover fish from the year before. Beautiful stream to just go and get away from it all. Members FJ80 Posted December 28, 2005 Members Posted December 28, 2005 I fished Hickory Monday eve. for a couple of hours. I noticed two gentlement spin fishing, so I approached to see how they were doing. They said that had been catching some, no big ones. I asked what they were using. POWER BAIT. I politely informed them that it was catch and release/atificial flies and lures only from NOV till the end of FEB. They acted like they didn't know, I bid them farewell and saw the leaving shortly after. Funny thing is, they parked righ next to the sign that has all of the regulations posted. They talked to my brother in law on the way out. They said that the hispanic residents had bee "cleaning them out." Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!! Hickory creek needs more water, more enforcement, and a local stream team to get the word out about the little resource they have there. THere is a ton of trash lining the banks from HWY 60 to the confluence.
Members tclubbs2 Posted December 29, 2005 Members Posted December 29, 2005 Hey Ollie, I have fished Capps creek at the dam below Jolly Mill a few times and have never caught anything. Come to think of it I have never seen anyone cathch anything but a few suckers in the small lake there and nothing below the dam. Am I just unlucky the few times I've been there or do I need to go further down stream to find where the fish are? I have asked a few people and get told that there aren't any fly fishing spots down stream. Just trying to find a closer spot to trout fish. Thanks for any help you can give me.
ollie Posted December 29, 2005 Author Posted December 29, 2005 tclubbs2, where you from? If you want to hook-up sometime, I'll show you where the prime spots are. They are there, but like I said, don't come expecting the chance of a lifetime fish out of there. JMO FJ80, the trash has always been a problem. After a heavy rain you should see it. Everything in town dumps into that creek. It is sad I tell ya. Chief Grey Bear Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Would Hickory Creek be worth a separate forum? Hey Phil, I was speaking with a fellow forum member the other day and this subject was brought up. Would you be interested in starting one now? Looks like there has been quite a bit of talk about the small creek in the last year. And if you did, could you move the other post about Hickory? We seem to have them spread out over a couple of forums.
