Jack Jones Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Let's say you're fishing any given body of water, be it Table Rock, LOTO, Lake Springfield. What is your "go to" spinnerbait (e.g. size, blades, color) for prospecting and doing your darnedest not to walk away empty handed? Mitch f Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Let's say you're fishing any given body of water, be it Table Rock, LOTO, Lake Springfield. What is your "go to" spinnerbait (e.g. size, blades, color) for prospecting and doing your darnedest not to walk away empty handed? I like all War eagles! For the river my go to spinnerbait is a 3/4 oz double gold willow leaf number 5 blade for the big one in high river murky water situations, I've caught a bunch of nice smallies on this. You need big tackle to horse this bait around but it works well. Slow roll it off the bottom like a jig or just steady reel. I'm not sure there is a better big fish bait when the conditions are right. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Al Agnew Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I usually make my own, but those War Eagles are pretty sweet. They are a little more compact than many commercially available spinnerbaits, with shorter arms on both sides of the line tie point, which I like. When I make my own, though, I form a looped eye, rather than the open R bend that you find on nearly all commercially produced ones...because I like to use a snap and it doesn't work with the R bend line tie.
flytyer57 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 White/chartreuse with a big ol' willow leaf blade. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Ham Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Spinnerbaits are a lot like screw drivers. I use the one that fits the job. I have favorite jerkbaits and topwaters. I don't have a favorite SB. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Tim Smith Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 In turbid water, a big white spinner bait with a fat colorado blade with lots of "thump". Easy to feel. Easy to find. In flowing water, unless I'm rolling baits over timber, I like in-line spinners. Still nothing in the stores better than Mepps as far as I can see. #2 or #3 for smallies.
RSBreth Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I like compact models most of the time. I have a few I like a lot but am trying to get a custom mold made for a "hidden weight" model. I like White/Silver for clear water - FireTiger for dingy or muddy. Most of the time it's tandem willow blades but I like a small Colorado or Indiana followed by a nice size Willow. I use Spinnerbaits a lot - more than almost anyone else I know for River Smallies.

I did the exact same thing 3 years ago trying to play Iron Chef Morimoto in my kitchen. Hope your finger heels. If you cast with your right hand that won't be so bad.
