Your hosed Cricket...

I was told that you can get a title by affidavit from Missouri Water Patrol, then you can register through DMV...Youll need to get the craft & motor inspected by Missouri Water Patrol, and apply for a title that way..Their supposed to do inspections at designated times in certain areas...Thought about it for a bit, and realized I was too lazy to bother with it..I've only use a Trolling motor on the canoe twice in the past 10-12 years...

Save you money and buy a better paddle...one of those light graphite jobs...

My Wenonah and Old Town both came with statements of origin that I took to the DMV with my reciepts and titled both very easy, both have stickers........not a big deal

Point taken... Honestly the trolling motor was quite unwieldy on the canoe...

Bac to your regularly scheduled conversation. :)

All I had to do to tag my canoe in Arkansas was go to the county assessor's(sp?) office and tell them what I paid for it so it would be included on my personal property taxes. They didn't even ask for a receipt (and yes, I lied about what I paid for it). Dan-o

We've used a trolling motor on a canoe on the Niangua and no one told us we had to register, ........yet!

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Trolling motors need no permits...

Not the motor, the vessel (with motor attached)..

Non motorized vessels need no markings, the way I understand it..

My lazy summer project (e.g. no time frame to complete) is going to be attempting to put a removable trolling motor on my yak for those times when I want to toodle around a lake or head back up river. From my research, a 2 x 4 will suffice as a mount. I can grab a BPS trolling motor, or find a used one, fairly inexpensively. What's killing me is the cost of deep cycle batteries and the chargers.

Can someone with experience advise me as to whether there is a cheap way to solve the battery issue since this is just a trial run? If it works well, I'll invest, but for now I want to keep the experiment as cheap as possible.

Anyway, regarding the subject..

First thing you'd have to decide is how to shorten up the shaft of the trolling motor.. Maybe even do away with it all together? As I mentioned to you before, I've seen real fancy kayaks the have the trolling motor attached/recessed into the bottom, complete with hand controls and foot peddles for the rudder! It looked kewl and all, but you'd destroy it in these ozarks rivers pretty quick just because there was no protection for the motor...

Second is handling.. Are you planning to steer with the trolling motor, or ruddering with your paddle?

Battery weight will always be a problem, but as someone pointed out you could just re-purpose a small battery from a smaller car (salvage yard), they weight allot less and would prolly still do the job... You'll definitely need to consider counter weighting your battery on the front end of the boat, or maybe you could run wiring to the front of the boat and put your battery there? (guess that depends upon the structure of your boat, eh?)
