denjac Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I don't know, the one we were in 1957 (Ruskin Heights) was on the ground for 70 miles. My grandparent drove up from Joplin back then to be with us. My grandparents aren't living now but the house they had built for them down in Joplin (about 17th and Massachusetts) is no longer their from what I here. That was a hard hit area. Its probably gone. denjac Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 The City of Joplin has established a few phone numbers for those still wanting to help with recovery and relief efforts in the wake of Sunday's tornado. Individuals wanting to donate their time should call 417-625-3543. If you want to donate items, call 625-6542, and if you're part of a volunteer group, church, or business, call 314-623-9991. jdmidwest Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Just read this and thought I would pass it along. Red Cross says cash now primary need in Joplin Tuesday, May 24, 2011 ~ Updated 1:05 PM The Associated Press JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - The Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross is asking those wanting to help Joplin residents to send money, rather than other donations. The organization says it is currently not accepting food, clothing, water or other basic supplies at Missouri Southern State University. Also, service organizations are working to coordinate the efforts of the many people arriving in Joplin wanting to help as the city recovers from Sunday's devastating tornado. Those wanting to volunteer, including those with medical training, are asked to call the United Way 211 at 1-800-427-4626. Others should go to Beimdiek Recreation Center on the Missouri Southern campus. Officials say volunteers should NOT come to the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center/Young Gymnasium areas. Buzz Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 They have been getting truckloads of supplies over the last 3 days. I think it is wonderful and unbeleivable that so many people have donated so much that there are few places to store it. A few big donations are going to help out a bunch. I am proud to say that I have worked for TAMKO for nearly 22 years. Not shown is the 1 Million that The Home Depot donated and the $10,000 dollars that the Carthage High School Seniors donated from their Project Graduation Fund and a few others that I can't remember. I have never seen such an outpouring of help in my life. Today they announced that there were 600 people doing searches and clean-up. As these people wear out they will need more volunteers to help with the clean-up effort. http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x370469506/TAMKO-gives-1-million-to-American-Red-Cross-for-relief-efforts http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x1934379419/Wal-Mart-donates-1-million-to-relief-efforts If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
denjac Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I cant believe this ! This group should be very wary of doing this. I was surprised the judge allowed them to picket the funerals of the fallen soldiers. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 They will run into uncontrollable emotions some day, some of them will get hurt and some normally peaceful individuals will be in trouble they didn't ask for. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
