Flysmallie Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 But the Gabriel Giffords shooter declared insanity today and walked. He didn't plead anything and he didn't walk either. Doctors from both the prosecution and the defense said he was unfit for trial. He will now be living in Springfield. Facing an agitated Loughner in a Phoenix courtroom, U.S. District Judge Larry A. Burns remanded him to a federal facility in Springfield, Mo., where he will receive treatment aimed at restoring his competency. The judge ordered that Loughner be treated for up to four months, and if he is then deemed to be competent, the case against him could resume. If not, he could remain in treatment.
bigredbirdfan Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 That is someone's son and I hope when the name is released that the parents aren't forum members. I've seen friends under the influence of some drugs that turned them into people that they normally were not. While it might be easy to assume he was a low life bum he may have taken a drug one time and this was the reaction. Very sad.
loo10 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 My life's journey has taught me that there is always more to the story. I've had immediate reactions to later realize I was wrong. I've had people on this forum who I did not like based on their comments... only to later, when I actually got to know them, become good friends. I have been shown great mercy and count on it completely when I leave this world. We don't know all the details and unfortunately never will. I choose to be merciful because this persons family must move forward. twosets Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I am with you, Rich. The stories of the pain and results of addiction are heartbreaking, as well as making our society more dangerous.
