gotmuddy Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I want to take the riverboat out this weekend on the buffalo or CC and I am concerned the water will be moving too fast for the 9.9 to handle. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 I wouldn't think it would be any faster now than when they run all the gens? the edges should be larger, but it is probably a decision that should be made at the river based on your experience. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

It appears to be moving along quite a bit faster because they are dumping 80k cf/s. I have been on norfork when they are generating two full units and I was thinking it would compare to that everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
flytyer57 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 It appears to be moving along quite a bit faster because they are dumping 80k cf/s. I have been on norfork when they are generating two full units and I was thinking it would compare to that Norfork @ 2 full units is approximately 7200 (7.2k) cfs. Less than 1/10 of what's coming out of Bull Shoals. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
tjulianc Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 But Norfork is a lot narrower than the White, and that makes a big difference on water velocity. For example I don't like to float CC at anything above 300 cfs, its just too fast to fish and there are some solid class II rapids that will swamp my canoe with ease. However the lower Buffalo at 300 cfs is low but floatable and a loaded canoe will drag on many of the shoals, and there will be lots of paddling through the pools.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 2 units on Norfork is a lot faster than 8 on the White. The Norfork can get hairy on 2 units pretty quick, especially below Long Hole. 8 on The White is pretty benign. In fact, the marinas would rather have 8 units than 2 for rentals. Call Gary Flippin at Rim Shoals Resort for some very reliable advice from a White River veteran. SIO3

In fact, the marinas would rather have 8 units than 2 for rentals. 2 units on norfork make me sweat, even in january. IF we only had 8 units on BS then I would not think twice about it. However with 17 floodgates we have a total of 80k cf/s and the water is appearing to move really fast from below the dam. Call Gary Flippin at Rim Shoals Resort for some very reliable advice from a White River veteran. SIO3 I will do that, thanks. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Did the water get into Riley's Station? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
gotmuddy Posted June 1, 2011 Author Posted June 1, 2011 last time I talked to the riley's it had not. they took everything out of the water to make sure nothing got washed away. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I was just looking at the graph for The white and it looks like they have shut down some of the gates? SIO3
