Members Ozarkroots Posted June 9, 2011 Members Posted June 9, 2011 I've heard the narrows are incredible. I live on the Niangua but was considering coming down next week to float and fish for smallies. Is that an area that is floatable right now? If so where would be good in and out points. Also, is this a good place for smallies? I'll just have a day to float. Thanks!!
MaxDrown Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Where are "the narrows"? I've never heard of that location on the 11. -- Max Drown
jdmidwest Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I stopped at the 142 Bridge this weekend on way to Spring River, the river is still up quite a bit and cloudy. I talked to a couple in a jet boat and they said the water was perfect for them. With it being up, it was easy to motor around and fish. There were several there Sunday on way back, but all were jet boats. You may want to try a Whitten to Riverton float with the water like it is. gotmuddy Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Honestly I prefer fishing the 11 point. With the water cloudy. The fish aren't as skittish. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
gotmuddy Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Btw, the narrows area is a good place for smallies as well as pickerel. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Brian Sloss Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Max It is down by the hwy 142 bridge about 29 river miles downstream of Greer. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497

2sheds Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 A bit more info, concerning "The Narrows". "The Narrows" is commonly used to refer to the MODOC maintained access on the east bank of the Eleven Point River at Highway 142. Water cools a bit from the confluence of serveral springs within a mile upstream. Smallmouth are good in both directions. I've heard you can pickup some walleye downstream from here. The original name "The Narrows" comes from a geological formation north and west of this highway access point. The peak of this formation is a narrow ridge that separates Frederick Creek from Blue Spring and several other springs. You can drive near the top by starting at the river access, heading west on SH142, and taking the 1st road on your right heading north. A short walk from the parking lot will take you to the top of "The Narrows" where you will find some 1920's picnic tables and a couple of CCC era overlook points. Continuing walking down the hill for a mile or so will take you to Morgan Spring (also historically significant from Civil War days and to high school biology labs). Another FYI - This is also near the southern boundary of the old Pigman Ranch, where the Beatles stayed during their visit to the Ozarks in 1964.
gotmuddy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 IMO the narrows is the prettiest part of the river from riverton to myrtle. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 How long is that float? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
