Members jimf1969 Posted June 9, 2011 Members Posted June 9, 2011 I took my brother in law and our boys to Bennett this past weekend, we had a good time for the most part. I ran into a great big fat guy just below the dam for the second year in a row. He is the most rude SOB I think I've ever seen. Both times I've been around him he uses his fly rod as a weapon to keep people away from him and his honey hole. When i got to the dam he was sitting in a lawn chair on the bank with some old guy. I waded out and started drifting a fly under a strike indicator. He started to cast his fly rod from his chair and let it drift down onto my legs then he would rip it across my legs. I just ignored him hoping he would snag me, he did not, then he waded out and turned so his back cast went right over my head. We were about 12 feet apart. he whipped it back and forth 15 or 20 times without landing it in the water. He would look over his shoulder to see if I was in the path of his favorite weapon ( his fly ). He finally hooked my fly and float. This is the second time I have seen him do this to people, most will just leave, I did not. He is a poor excuse for a sportsman. Had my kids not been there one of us would have gone to jail. Accidents happen, I get that, What he does is no accident. Be on the look out for him you can't miss him, He's the big fat guy with a poor disposition. P.S. He considers himself armed and dangerous! All the romance of trout fishing exists in the mind of the angler and is in no way shared by the fish. ~Harold F. Blaisdell,
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I hear ya Jim. I had a "discussion" wih a guy doing the same thing below the bridge a couple years ago. My daughter asked my wife why she had to hold my flyrod while daddy chased a car down the street in his waders. Daddy almost had a heart attack trying to run that fast. Pete
Jack Jones Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 This, my friends, is why I try to avoid the trout parks on the weekends. Maybe early in the day, or even late in the day, but mostly, I just stay at home until I get a chance to go in the week. Oh how I look forward to C/R season. Similar to what I've heard said about Minnesota----it's cold, but it keeps the riff-raff out. FYI - Free fishing weekend this weekend....gonna be extra jammed. I have had to quit the parks almost entirely. I can have kind of a hot temper when people are blatantly rude and/ or mean, and I just have a lot better time when I don't spend the whole trip being pissed off.

FishinCricket Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 That is the most brilliant thing you have ever posted. I love it. I'm curious as to how many park trips it took for OTF to put two and two together.. Not to mention when the revelation hit him: "Wait, so you mean it's not the fishin that's pissing me off and ruining my day? Wow! I need to do this (solitude thing) more often!!" cricket.c21.com

I didn't mean it like that. Yeah it's so simple....but it's a great statement. Â Â

And that my friend is me in a nut shell. Although as I get older I have become much more aware of the fact that it's much more likely that I might get my butt kicked as compared to when I could back my words up. But my wife still hates to take me shopping! www.drydock516.com

flyrodman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Yep, this is a classic trout park situation right here. Almost every time I go BSSP I will run into someone who acts really immature. I hate it especially when you walk a few steps away to tie on a new fly and when you turn around someone took the spot you were just in. Luke Walz
