Walcrabass Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 We fished at Stockton on Saturday. Let me rephrase that... we attempted to fish. When I went to Kindergarten I was taught to be polite and respectful of other people and their things. In other words don't blast the radio when everyone is asleep etc. I saw more rude self centered actions by Jet ski operaters than you can imagine. They were in the coves running 40 mph all around the perimeter at a distance of about 10 feet from the bank. Instead of turning out in plenty of time when they came to someone fishing it was as if they were playing "Chicken" or something. The worst was the guys that turned around to come back and do it again! I might add that it was not all the young either. Two or three Fathers with their children out for a ride are also included. What a great way to teach your kids that others don't matter. Please yourself and forget all else. The really bad thing was that they were in big coves where they could have stayed out towards the middle. For all that the whole lake was pretty calm and they could have been in the main body. Please don't think that I am blaming them for not catching fish..... we caught a bunch of nice sized Bass....after moving about five times. I am simply blaming our school systems ( NOT) because obviously they do not teach the same things today that I learned in yesteryear. I know we have Hunter Harrassment Laws. Do we have anything on the books that can help with this matter? I have noticed that when the noise level gets too loud in the campgrounds that the Sherriff shows up. Maybe the Water patrol can lend a hand. If it is this bad already I can just guess what the rest of the Summer will bring. Please don't think I am raging mad because I'm not. I am just really disappointed in a small group of Human beings. If the Water Patrol is interested the area was around B-8 and Googer Creek. Have a great time at the Lake......please don't knowingly hamper the enjoyment of others. Oh yeah, the biggest Bass was over 4 pounds. Plastic Worms and Jigs.
Members Big Bass Shawn Posted June 13, 2011 Members Posted June 13, 2011 I had the same issues today over by Cedar Ridge. It was a combination of jet skiers and tubers that really did have plenty of other room and came within 20 feet of my Nitro about 100 times. The lake was calm, like you said other than that. I had success on plastic worms as well, have been for the past couple of weeks. I grew up a lake kid and I was taught the right way to do things, I think more and more people are just buying jet skies without having been out on the lake, but you think people would have more common sense. It felt like I was in the ocean for awhile or trying to ride a bull just stay on the front deck of my boat. There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.
Members Ryno Posted June 13, 2011 Members Posted June 13, 2011 What are some of the structures your catching bass off of? Taking a buddy out there this week it be nice to have a starting point? "set the steel to em"
Thunderin Gobbler Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I went to CC yesterday and fortunately didn't have to deal with the jet skiers. But what I did have was some idiot try to block me in while I was loading the boat back on the trailer. When I was walking up the the truck to start backing down a man and his wife pulled in with their boat. I was gonna wait and let them go ahead and launch, but they parked and just sat there, so I went ahead and backed down. Once I got the trailer to the water and my dad drove the boat on, the guy started backing down the ramp. For those that don't know, it's only a 1 LANE ramp. He backed down to about 20 feet right in front of me and just stopped. I could just barely get by him and had to drive the trailer off into the ditch to get by. Some people just don't have a clue! It's been something stupid like that every time I've been out this year.

Members Bassin Bill Posted June 13, 2011 Members Posted June 13, 2011 Bleeding Shiner, Way to stay focused and not let your day ruined!! I'm heading to Stockton this coming weekend! How deep where your fish? Where they on brushpiles or just structure breaks? Bassin' Bill Springfield
eric1978 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Same problems on LOZ this weekend. Didn't do much fishing, but just hanging out and swimming off the back of the anchored boat in a quiet cove was a challenge. Idiots would blow by on plane in 30 foot Sea Rays less than 15 feet away from us and throw off Bering Sea wakes. I don't know what that has to do with our "school systems" though. Like you said, even the "adults" are irresponsible, rude and self-absorbed. I don't think with our schools' current budgets "Boating Etiquette 101" is likely going to be a new class. It's the parents' fault. If you're an idiot, you're going to raise idiots, regardless of what school you send them to.

I think his comment lends itself not so much directly to "why don't they teach boating etiquette" as it was "why don't they teach common sense and etiquette in schools"? Unfortunately I think the answer is simply "They're supposed to learn that at home!" You did, didn't you?" cricket.c21.com
straw hat Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 It depresses me to think what the lake will be like in 20 years. Be careful guys. Idiots like those are why we need to wear your life jackets.
Thunderin Gobbler Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 The bad thing is that the teachers expect the parents to do everything, and visa versa. I know that doesn't apply to all teachers, but I personally know a lot of them in Springfield that have this mentality. Either way, people need to use a little common sense every once in a while. With the water levels coming back down on Stockton, somebody is going to get hurt on the rocks/trees at water level. I just hope none of us have to witness it.
