Yeah, I don't have a clue either! That is the reason I just leave it all up to our IT dept. I work for a rather large organization and I have been told they keep up to date very well. A person even has to have Administrator privileges to perform any kind of updates, installments, etc. on our computers. Our computers are updated nightly as a whole. After having this problem, there is no way I would even take the chance on my home pc. Thanks.

There is a tool on the forum that I can run and did yesterday. It goes through and list all the .exe files and level of suspicious activity in each. In looking at the list, there are only a few .exe files that are new as of 2011 and all are low level- part of the forum's makeup. Nothing unusual.

My IT asks the following question of anyone getting a virus warning on their machine:

Can he send us a screen grab of the message he's getting? And a description of his machine, including os, version of explore he's using.

Lilley, not sure what os means, but here is some of the other info.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Dell Optiplex 760

Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU

E7400 @ 2.80GHz

1.59 GHz, 1.93 GB of RAM

Internet Explorer 7

Hope this helps. It is the info from my System Properties-General tab. Don't know how to get a screen grab or if I even could. When the virus pops on screen it is in a box with a title at the top that says Windows XP Repair. Inside the box it says something about analyzing computer for virus' and starts going thru a checklist of some sort and showing each one completed as it works. Thanks.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know I have had a problem with the virus also. It happened first about a month and a half ago. I logged onto the site and immediately a Windows Xp Repair Box popped up saying it was analyzing my computer. It totally wiped out everything on my harddrive. Fortunately I was on my jobs' computer and we have an excellent IT department and they were able to retrieve everything.

This is exactly what happened to me!

I was just talking to Buzz last night and it appears that it happened to him the other day too.

There's all kinda stuff out on the web about the "Windows XP Repair" virus. Chief -- did you run something to clean it off?

No it fried it. You couldn't do anything with it. It was the wifes work laptop and it was sent back and I am sure tossed in the trash. Needless to say things were not good around here for a few days.

I'm not pointing fingers on where it came from but I am not so blind as to not see some similarities.

I think this site was mentioned before, but you can google "Windows XP Repair virus bleeping computer" and you can find an uninstall guide link for this on bleepingcomputer.com. Just figured admin might want to check this out, because there are screen shots of the virus on there too. In my case it hasn't helped to just have the virus uninstalled from my pc, because every time I come back to this site I am infected again.
