Patrick M Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I have a 14 ft v - bottom boat with a 4 hp outboard on it. with this generation how would it do on taneycomo? i have never boated taney before.
Dutch Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 With that small of a motor you would need to be on the lower end if they are genning. You would not be able to pull against the current.

Dutch Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Nope that would be around Rockaway Beach. A friend of mine only fishes down there. He catches lots of trout trolling Little Cleos. My PB male was a 6.5# down there on a KO Wobbler.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I don't think you would have any trouble if you stay closer to the 65 bridge. Rockaway Beach or Ozark Beach would be fine also. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Bill Babler Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Never fished the lower end? is that around the landing? how is the fishing there? No Patrick, the Landing would not be considered the Lower End. You can launch at the Branson Ramp next to Scotty's and If it were me I would head up steam with the 4 Hp. On 4 turbines of generation, I would not want to be below the boat ramp. I'm sure you would be ok, but the little 4 would have to work to get you home. If you are above the ramp with a low flow in the mornings you can simply float downstream to the ramp when they kick on the juice. Fishing has been excellent between Cooper Creek and Branson. Lots of stocked fish in that area. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 3, 2011 Root Admin Posted July 3, 2011 Bill is right. Current wouldn't be that strong down there even with 4 units, which they're only running 3 lately. Launching at Cooper would be ok in the morning till about noon but like Bill said, go upstream and float down. Later in the pm, the current will pick up.
Patrick M Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 I actually picked up the briggs and stratton 5 hp air cooled outboard for my boat. i am in the process of getting it licensed/ Registered and then am going to take it out. It's been since all this flooding began the first round since i have trout fished. I've only had my boat on lake springfield and I've only fished taneycomo at the public access at the outlets at the Dam. Bill and Phil I appreciate the advice i look up to you both and what you contribute. I am new to fishing the area and Fly Fishing. At work I'm the young guy and also possibly fishing. I am trying to expiernce more of Taneycomo and Table rock. Where is the Branson ramp and Scotty's?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 6, 2011 Root Admin Posted July 6, 2011 Yes- it's right next to Scotty's.
rainbow Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 The first time I was on Taney was back in the 70's. I had a 5.5 hp motor and rented a jon from the old Roark resort. The dock guy said go up so we did and it took us over an hour to get where Lilley's is today. Don't know what they were running but we were wide open and going slow. If you can go up and drift back like Phil and Bill said you'll be ok. My old 5.5 did fine below the bridges.
