Boat Ramps Didn't Know This

Was to meet my Son yesterday at a Ramp on Pomme de Terre that I had never been.

Get there everything said Private but my Son said it was Public.We went ahead and put in,rode around for the day.Get back that evening.Son leaves I'm still there,people come in that had the Ramp.Said yes it was their Ramp but had to let Public use it because it was on COE Land.

Just found it interesting.

Interesting, I've wondered about some of the "private" ramps around the lake.

I think a lot pof lake dwellers get confued between LOZ and the Corp lakes. They don't control anything below the flood level unless it's personal property such as a boat or a dock.

A lot of the signs about a no wake zone and a protected perimeter are bogus.

My dad lived on Pomme for 30 years. It was always our understanding that once an access was made to the lake across corp land is was open to public use.

There are no private ramps on Corps lakes. Try Bridge Port some time. They have a big sign on the north side but can't stop you from launching.

Yep all ramps that are on the lake must be open to the public. The licensee does pay a licensee fee to have and must maintain it at their expense but it is required to remain open to the public. We get a LOT of complaints from those folks who pay for and maintain those ramps but the fact remains they have to let everyone use it. Doesn't mean if you use one a lot and would like to donate to the upkeep of it that you can't you just have to find the person or organization who licenses and maintains it to give some money to. The biggest problem at most of them is parking, they are mostly designed for vehicles accessing the boat docks, and often have little room for parking of boat trailers, but some are better than others. Always leave it a little better than you found it, pick up some trash and bag it up, and be polite. Good advice no matter where you launch. I will add a quick note that while the launch ramps are public the docks are not, they are private property and while most are not signed they still are. Some of the docks nearest a launch rammp get used as courtesy docks, please remember they are privately owned docks and not courtesy docks, however if you do happen to see that owner on the dock a friendly chat and a few crappie fillets might go a long way.

BTW Pomme has NO FISH left in it, so there is no reason to try to catch any!! Honestly I have heard some tremendous reports but missed out on most of it as I was deployed to Joplin for 6 weeks and just came back last week in time for the typical July weather, I will get my chance soon, have a hankering to try trolling crankbaits for crappie, never done that before.
