FishinCricket Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 The limit for Montauk is 1 brown per day, 15" or larger. Lots of stuff goes on like this at trout parks, and for some reason there is never really any enforcement that I have seen. Hopefully someone from MDC is monitoring this site. Why don't you unblack his face Idylwylde? If they are monitoring then they'll see the Facebook post... I'm sure Idlewylde is just protecting himself.. Not that I don't believe you, but I'm having trouble finding it in the regs... Could you point out where the limit on browns is 1 per day? I can't even find it in the state regs anywhere.. I recall it being law at one point, but I can't prove it with a link... Help? cricket.c21.com
Ill Trout Bum Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 In all my years fishing Montauk, I've only caught a handful of browns inside the park. Only one of those was a lunker. This time of year, however, is prime for browns trying to move upstream and get closer to a spring source. I must admit that the catching of multiple lunkers such as these should raise a few eyebrows if anyone at MDC is watching. Scott
Guest Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Actually, I may be wrong. I can't seem to find that info anywhere online, although I think I have seen that regulation posted at Montauk last year. http://mdc.mo.gov/fishing/regulations/sport-fish-regulations/trout-regulations-and-permits
Gavin Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Here's the Code...I dont see a 1 brown in your limit rule other than on Taneycomo...If that's so...it needs to change. Why have a 1>18" rule on browns downstream if you can keep 4 over 15" in the park. http://www.sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3c10-6.pdf
Idylwilde Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 The face is not that important here but the local agent has the photo and is on the job. I did or do not want to accuse this guy of being in the wrong, but I sure hate to see the River being robbed of all the big Browns. As for the photo being taken the shop owner does not get involved in the politics of the methods of catching, but will report any possible violations as this to MDC. I know more to the story of this angler and his catches but here is not the place to air them. The meaning of the post was and is to see what other anglers thought about the evidence as presented and show how one angler is limiting the numbers of brown trophy trout for everyone. And if that angler is watching this tread would see what his peers think it. (These Three fish this Sunday is only the tip of the iceberg for this particular angler.) Also show enforcement that their is an issue on the Current River and it will be made public if we see it. Also the Anglers Photo has not been placed on the web as a badge for him. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.

Kayser Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 From the photo, this occurred at Montauk SP, in the bait water. The browns are not stocked in the park, but are rather stocked at a 6-8" size below the park in the Blue Ribbon area where they grow to trophy size and then swim upstream. The only area they can access is the "Anything goes" portion of the park, so as long as the fish are hooked in the mouth, then he's legal. I do remember the 1 brown/day rule, but cannot find it in the Wildlife Code, General Fishing regs, or the MDC website, so I'm going to guess that it was removed for whatever reason, unless it is posted in the park. So the 3 fish on the stringer are all legal unless somebody proves that they were snagged. Personally, it doesn't make any sense to me that they would remove the brown trout limit. The fish are stocked below the park for a trophy opportunity and protected as such down there, but some move up into the park during the hot weather and suddenly it's open season because they crossed under a cable 10ft above the water. Poor resource management, in my opinion. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 18, 2011 Root Admin Posted July 18, 2011 If he's catching a lot of trout, he has to be getting rid of them or he'll have a possession issue. That's something agents will look into.
FishinCricket Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 If he's catching a lot of trout, he has to be getting rid of them or he'll have a possession issue. That's something agents will look into. Indeed, the possession limit is only twice the daily limit... Which poses a different question: How does the MDC confirm where you caught the fish? Agent and Consumer conversation: Agent: "do you have any fish in your cooler, sir?" Consumer: "yes, officer, a few browns..." Agent: "sir, you have 7 lunker brown trout in your cooler, did you say you were here fishing the river below, or in the park?" Consumer: "is there a difference?" Agent: "If these were caught below the park then I'll hafta write you a ticket!" Consumer: "oh, well those were all caught in the park then..." ________ Someone needs to teach the MDC to write regulations... :shakes_head: cricket.c21.com
