Now I find out that I have been breaking the law for a long time, all trout must be 15". I responded to this one and have not heard back. Poor guy probably wishes he never answered this email.

His response

It should be 4 at 15” at all trout parks. I’ve sent a message to Montauk inquiring about their signage on this.

The Wildlife codes states 4 at 15” statewide for all trout. (Rainbows and Browns.) There are specific waters in the state that have different rules, but not for Brown trout in the Parks.

You can reference this in section 10-6.535 of the Wildlife Code here: http://sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3c10-6.pdf

I hope this helps with the confusion,

Are you freakin kidding me? Maybe MDC should just let the members of this board be the new rule makers. I think we have a better grasp on them they any of those guys seem to.

I think at this point if we summarized our own version of the regs and emailed them of, these guys would smile, nod and send them along to the trout parks to make new signs.

Just a thought, What if the Elk protection rule was like the Brown Trout Rule. During the legal deer season if an elk wondered off of the protected area (Peck Ranch) any deer hunter with a deer tag could legally take the elk under the open deer season rule? But I guess they thank more of the elk as to close all these loopholes in the elk rule. Funny to see a 6+6 elk in the back of a big Dodge Ram Truck driving around the county to show it off.

Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.

To clarify, the length limit is 15" Statewide for browns only, as stated in 3 CSR 10-6.535, Section 4, Paragraph A of the MO Wildlife code. Section 4 also states that there are no length limits except for Browns (15" statewide), trout in Blue Ribbon Streams (listed individually), and Browns on Taneycomo (all detailed in separate paragraphs of section 4). Statewide length limit for rainbows is never established, other than for those designated as Blue Ribbon Streams (listed individually).

The daily limit is established in Section 1; the wording in paragraph C may lead you to believe that there could be a 1 fish/day rule in Montauk itself, but I think we know better than that.

But we have identified the problem, and now would like to voice a concern. Since we all have different ideas as to what a length limit should be on Browns, could we at least come together and push for a statewide daily limit of 1 for browns? Unified movement is the way to enact a change.

I dont think we need to agree on anything...........We just need folks to write letters to MDC's regulation committee telling them what they want. If you want a statewide limit of 1 brown trout, and/or higher length limits, something else, or want to write in opposition...Thats fine with me too.

The names of the folks on the Regulation Committee and the mailing address is the letter I put up a few posts back...

Well, I thought it was 1 brown trout over 15" in most places and the parks. Final email today states that it is 4 and 15" in the parks for the brown trout. I will cast my vote for 1 fish, 15" min in all parks. Montauk signage is being updated.

In my attempt for brevity I sacrificed clarity. Page 16-20 of our Fishing Regulations Summary explains the trout regulations much better, or by viewing our Web site here.

I confirmed with the Hatchery of Manager of Montauk the 4 at 15” rule within the park on Browns, and he will remove any signs to the contrary.

Sorry for the confusion,

Andrew

Why should brown trout be protected more than rainbows? They are both hatchery maintained in Missouri. Let them get caught, ate and restocked. That is the life cycle of a brown trout in Missouri.

Drew do the math....Millions of rainbows stocked annually for the fryer.....60,000 brown trout stocked annually...most in Taney.........the resource is smaller and they grow BIG unlike rainbows....a truly beneficial stocked exotic sport fish.....They require more management.

This topic is about adopting stricter regulations for the harvest of brown trout. It would actually save money and improve the fishery. Just change the rules....no additional management or expense required. It is quite clear and quite simple.

Let's not steer this into another tired debate regarding the merits of stocking trout Missouri. We have been over that enough.
