powerdive Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 For those who are using micro guide rods, I'd love to hear your judgments. Manufacturers claim the rods are lighter, better casting, and more sensitive. True, or not? Regardless of how much you spent, I'd appreciate your honest opinion. Thanks.
Bill Babler Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Probably no one in the area has more experence with the micro guides than my Buddy Bill Beck. He has been fishing them since Falcon started placing them on their T7's. I have had mine for several months. I will tell you the casting distance is completely dramatic. At least over anything of the same weight, length and flex, the micro guides by keeping the line in a straight precise non looping motion, will create further casts. I have to be very carefull when casting at objects with the same reel tention and be aware if I have picked up the micro. If not, I will even will all my fishing experence, simply sail the bait into the tree tops. Bill uses and loves the micro's in warm weather. In cooler weather the eyes will at some time freeze, and ice will block the eyelets. Also with the line being a bit stiffer in the cooler times it can be a problem. The primis with the micro's is to keep the line from becoming slack on the cast and hitting the larger eyes and looping, slowing down the line thru the bigger eyes. With the micro's and more eyes it maintains a straighter line to the bait. The micro eye rods will also keep you in very close contact with any fish you catch, just by having more contact points and using the entire rod on either the hook set or in playing the fish. Have not noticed anything on sensitivity. Don't believe there is a difference. Don't think you need to have ten of them, but a couple of micro jig rods are a pretty solid fishing investment.. i would for sure look at the Falcon Micro Cara T7 finess jig. Pair that with a Shimano Core or Diawia Steez and you have a lighting feather weight combo. "Don't let the wife see the Visa reciept on that outfit, or you will also have a new living room set." Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 Thanks for the info Bill, I was curious about those micro-guides myself.
vacation Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 I just received the generation 4 Carrot Stix, which I am testing, it has micro guides. I have used it on 2 outings and can say I enjoy the rod/micro guides very much, but time will tell...
powerdive Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks, Bill. Appreciate the feedback. I understand the concept, but have always wondered if it's more gimmick than substance. Sounds like they get a thumbs-up from you. Good point on the cold weather, too. @ vacation--what do you like about your G4 Stix so far?
Members Lunker Lane Posted July 25, 2011 Members Posted July 25, 2011 I have a Duckett casting micro rod. I love it, going to buy a few more and the Falcon Cara jig rod, Bill talked about is on my list too. These micro rods you can cast a country mile. I believe they tend not not backlash as easy too.
johnm Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I also have a carrot stick e21 with micro guide eyelets. I love it but am not sure what's gonna happen if I ever have to replace the rod tip... Very light and sensitivity is great...
vacation Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 the c stix is light and sensitive, but seriosly i'll know more at the end of the season after I get another 75 days on the water out of her
ozarksfishin Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 I have a couple of the micro guide rods made by Rock Springs Tackle here in Harrison, very sensitive and casts a mile! On a lighter note, if Babler keeps losing weight, he is gonna be a micro guide! Sorry, couldn't help it! OAF Contributor Phillip Stone http://ozarksfishin.com
Champ188 Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 LOL @ Stone - he's gonna hafta put a seat belt in that new Phoenix or he'll blow himself plumb out of it.
