grizwilson Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 My Royalex old town is needing some skid plates on each end. I am thinking of kevlar but not sure what to use to soak and seal them. Old town packages come with polyester resin, some use epoxy from the auto parts store. A friend suggested a product called G Flex made by west systems. I can buy the kevlar for about $30 on ebay, so whatever I do will be far less that a kit from old town of about 130. eric1978 Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 I used G-Flex to fix a crack in my canoe. It worked great, but I made the repair on the inside. It dries hard but somewhat flexible, making it slightly tacky. Not sure I'd want it on the outside of the canoe as it might have a tendancy to "stick" to rocks. It's definitely tough stuff, though, and would keep your skid plates attached. I might look for a harder epoxy. West Systems makes all kinds of them.
