moguy1973 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Floated the Harpers to Hwy 8 section of the Huzzah today and did ok...It was only my second time on the Huzzah and first on that section. Ended up catching 5 smallies total with 4 of them being 8-12" long and the last one being about 18-19" long and about 2.5lbs (scale got wet and couldn't weigh it)...Caught all the small ones on a white Super Fluke TR'ed and the big one on a BPS puke colored 4" tube... I think the first picture is a Neosho smallmouth? Definitely had a longer lower lip than the upper... -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Buzz Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Nice fish. Thanks for the report and pics. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
TroutRinger Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 and the big one on a BPS puke colored 4" tube... If by puke, you mean Mustard colored, then you have found the most consistent smallmouth lure I know of. Try using 1/8 marabou crappie jigs in yellow, green, white, and brown for hooks instead of plain jig heads. and awesome fish btw! eric1978 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Very nice fish. Just FYI, you'll only find Neoshos down in SWMO around, uh, Neosho. Those are just good ol' river smallies.

Yeah it's a mustard color, but Bass Pro actually calls it "Puke" Nice hat. eric1978 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Gotta keep the sun off my fair skin... If it was anyone else, I'd say they were giving you a hard time. But Dano is such a nice guy, I'd be willing to bet he sincerely liked your hat. Jusso ya kno.

Chief Grey Bear Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I think the first picture is a Neosho smallmouth? Definitely had a longer lower lip than the upper... Hey nice fish there! Sorry I didn't see this earlier. What you have is a brownie with a deformity. The Neosho strain is only in 5 counties of the very SW corner of Missouri. All of these waterways are in the Spring River, Elk drainages flowing west into KS and OK. On a Neosho the lip doesn't protrude quite that far out. It is somewhat very slight. Much like if the fish had a dip of snuff in the lower lip. I think it was Cricket or eric that also has a pic of severly deformed smallmouth that they posted on the forum.
