I can't remember all of the formula for the weight of a bass in the field.

Length X Girth X Girth divided by ??? = ____lbs.

Chief, this is what I found. hope its what you were looking for.

BASS - Weight Calculation Formulas

Length x Girth ÷ 1,200 = weight

(length x length x girth ÷ 1,200) = weight

You can also use:

(length X length X length) divided by 1600

Thanks. That is what I was looking for.

I always just eyeball it. All this science takes the fun out of fishing.

I've never found the formulas to be very accurate. I've caught and weighed enough river smallmouth to be able to guess the weight of any of them within a few ounces if I know the length. When it gets to big reservoir largemouths I'm not nearly as accurate.

On my farm pond excursion this evening, the boy caught his biggest bass to date so I got the scale out of the tackle box. No I have never used one till today and when it weighed 5 1/2 pounds I told the boy; I used to just guess at the weight and if that fish is as it says it is then I have caught some BIG bass before. Them 8 pounders must have been 10 or 12 pounders.

I guess then, those formulas are just as accurate as you are. You both get within a few ounces. :innocent::grin:

Looks like we are in the 7lb. neighborhood. Give or take depending on which formula you use. 22.5" length, 16" girth.
