exiledguide Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 You have been using the same fly line for 8 years? I think I would seriously think of replacing it with the same brand you have now, but I'm pretty frugal when it comes to wasting money on tackle that I really don't need. I still use a late 70's St Croix 6'6" glass Birch Bark 5/6 wt fly rod with a 6wt double taper floating line and an Eagle Claw reel that I've had longer than the rod. Still catches fish. I actualy have tried to replace it 3 times with a Fenwick and 2 SA rods up to 9' long, but for bedding bluegills and small streams this is my favorite outfit. But I have never got 8 years out of a fly line.

There was a gap of about 2-3 where I maybe used it one or twice total so it only has about 5 years on it. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." Murdoc Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I'm with exiledguide. 8years out of a line sounds like a winner to me! My favorite rod in the parks is a 7'6" 3wt and Taney at night 9' 6wt. I want the big browns to know I'm there! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/

Troutringer, if you are ever in the market to replace that rod, Murdoc is the man to talk to. Hi Murdoc. Where the heck you been?
Murdoc Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Laker76 it's a good year for rod and blank sales!! Sold one to a guy in China last night. I've been building rods and shipping blanks!!! I wish I was trying to wear out some fishing line so I could justify buying new line!! Thanks for thinking about me! I've been fishing twice this year!! Sad!!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Members mo_outdoors1 Posted August 24, 2011 Members Posted August 24, 2011 Recommend a Weight forward fly line know matter what the brand and price. That 2 can make alot of things nice and easy. Good Luck. Stop in at the fly shop before getting off of fall creek road onto the taney turn and those guys will hook you up. Tell them your not cheap but what your looking for. Great guys in there.
