Members jimf1969 Posted August 16, 2011 Members Posted August 16, 2011 I am wanting to take my brother and his son trout fishing before his son gets deployed to Afghanistan next month. He ( my nephew ) has never been before, so, his father is flying in from pennsylvania on the 29Th of this month. we are either going to BSSP or Taney. Was hoping he would catch some trout. Would loan him some of my gear to get the job done. Now, I know we can catch some at Bennett. Was wandering if you think the fishing would be good on Taney that week. Water level? Have you all been catching them recently? What do you think, BSSP or Taney? I have called BSSP and they have lodging open that week so that won't be on issue. thanks for any help making this a memorable fishing trip. Members mikes custom fly rods Posted August 16, 2011 Members Posted August 16, 2011 Hi Jim F BSSP is nice almost all year but you can't beat Taney it is so much better the fish fight harder and the chance fo a real pig is always there especially in the fall. Go to Taney and you can't go wrong I'm going Sept. 14 and 15 and can't wait. P.S. Taney will be pretty busy that time of year. Mike brune
TroutRinger Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I agree that Taney is a better fishery. However, sounds like your relatives don't have experience trout fishing. If you were planning on wading the trophy area, it might be tough for two beginners. Personally if I wanted to ensure your nephew catches some trout, I would take him to BSSP. Having never trout fished before, he won't care if he catches nothing but stockers. The fact that the trout are less wary there also makes it a lot better place to sight fish which is something I think they would really enjoy. tippet7 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 First off..wishing your nephew and family Gods speed with his deployment and he and his fellow servicemen come home safe. Second-If you need any gear email me, I would gladly let him use my fly rods. Third-Would love to buy him a cold one, set up a night fish on Taneycomo, cold beer goes down well with an armload of trout. ness Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Well, an experienced fisherman offering to equip and/or guide is pretty tough to beat. I would lean toward Bennett for a first-timer otherwise. John
Members jimf1969 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Members Posted August 17, 2011 Thanks for the help guys. We may do both BSSP & Taney. Hope to see some of ya down there on Taney. Not sure where Royal point is , but might have to take ya up on the lodging. As for the gear I think we will be alright with my stuff. I have one fly rod and two ultra light spinning rigs. Thanks for the offer. I would hate to break someone else's stuff. Now. like I said my nephew has no experience trout fishing, but my brother and myself have been going to Montauk & BSSP since we were kids. I have only been to Taney once, that was last year. I had a great time and am looking forward to getting back there. Thanks again for every thing. ness Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 We took my nephew down to Roaring River a few years back before he shipped out to Afghanistan to be a medic. It was a memorable trip, and he's a great kid. He just made it through Airborne training last month! Just have a great time where ever you go, and let him know we appreciate his service. John
