jdmidwest Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 True emerger patterns float in the film of the water, the majority of patterns have some small floating device built into the pattern. I have used caddis nymphs with cdc feathers to float the pattern and have used small pieces of foam on others. The idea is to match the stage of an insect nymph trying to break out of its nymphal stage into its flying stage. You would fish it on a tippet much the same as you would a dry fly. The cdc or foam is your indicator to track it in the water. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Works great at Blue Springs Creek and Bennett for me.

Agreed, fish a soft hackle on the dead drift or short strips. Cast straight out and once the fly lands give a good strip to get the fly int he film.
