abkeenan Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 Fished Sat and Sunday in the dam area. Lets just say that fishing for the black bass right now is pretty dang tough. Started out mornings around 6AM on main lake points with little success. Mostly all shorts coming in the 15-25 FOW range early on. Being as hot as it is they move deep QUICKLY after the sun gets up and dont seem to want to eat anything. Most of the fish were caught on crawdad imitators (jig n trailer, baby brush hog, yum crawpapi). Wasted time in pursuit of the blacks before we happened upon some whites boiling on shad and we spent the rest of Saturday morning chasing them with decent success. The whites are just everywhere in the dam area and usually right in the mouth of coves and creeks and around the multiple islands towards the 86 bridge. Whites were caught on the standard lures (spoons, white rooster tails, inline spinners and top water baits). The whites are all over the area just kinda just keep an eye out for when they come up and then throw to them. If they go down they are still there just run your lures a bit deeper and you will get bit. Did our best on the whites in Brushy Creek but just look for the birds getting into the schools of shad and the whites will be near. Good luck. -Brett
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 We were out in the boat Friday afternoon and had whites busting around us all day. We had then busting from Indian Point to the diving bluff. SIO3
johnm Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Agreed with the black bass report for DAYTIME. I fished mill creek to Baxter sat and sun morning only fish of mine came on crawdad imitations (drop shot = bluegill)Wat tube, brown or Wat jig. I targeted brushy main lake points with the best results in 10-20 fow. TOUGHEST trip on the rock this year. Most fish i caught were smallmouth on the tube and kent/larg on jig. 3 daytime keeps out of 9 hours on the water ouch! But u gotta have those to appreciate the good days. If anyone happens to know what did work with the water temps near 87 let me know fellas, I was fishing alone and figured the nighttime bite must be much better based on friday night totals posted by Jason e...
Members Fishinator Posted August 24, 2011 Members Posted August 24, 2011 Went out this morning in the Dam area, focused on top water early and caught 2 shorts.Switched to throwing war eagle spoons at the fish busting on top and game on. Ended up with about 20 fish by 10am, half keepers.Best action was at the mouth or center of coves over the creek channel.Temp. 83.5 Lots of fun!

Is that a jigging spoon that you casted, or a casting spoon? What size/weight spoons do you guys use for jigging? Sounds like a great day, I hope to get into some of that action soon when I come down.
