I am heading down to Popular Bluff this weekend with my girlfriend to visit her cousin and her family. All in all it should be a fun weekend with some fishing, paintballing, 4 wheeling, and frog gigging (apparently they think this will be funny watching the city boy do this..and there probably right). I am looking forward to a quick weekend out of the city.

Anyway, my girlfriend's cousin's son who is twelve has expressed some interest in doing some fishing Saturday morning. Anyone, know any good areas in or near Popular Bluff I could take him? I think he wants to do some Catfishing and I don't think he has a lot of fishing experience. I might try to put him on a few bass if things go well. He is a really good kid so I would like for him to catch a few in the limited time we will have.

The Black River runs right through town...bet you can find some access.....but I'd probably ask your GF's folks where they go.

the little black river runs just south of town. right by where we go 4-wheeling(bricks 4x4 farm)

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

There's a small wadeable creek named Cane Creek that has good numbers of bass

Well we had an interesting weekend and we only managed to sneak away for a hour or so on Sunday morning to fish a spring fed pond. Caught a few largemouth, but really only fished for a few minutes before I had to head back to STL.

Unfortunately, we spent a fair amount of time in the emergency room after a family member accidently took a few shots below the belt from an automatic paintball gun. It was not pretty, but he will be ok...eventually. Think I'll stick to the fishing.

I am also looking for various spots around the poplar bluff area to fish as well. I am very interested in checking out Cane Creek and 10 Mile Creek but it seems like the majority of the land thate borders both creeks in this area is private. Does anyone know where HGWY TT crosses 10 Mile Creek maybe 10-12 miles south of Poplar Bluff? That is where I THINK I could access the river to shore fish but they do have no parking signs on that part of the road. I was thinking about having my wife drop me off and then come back and get me a bit later to get around that problem. Is it illegal to walk down to the creek right there? I know I don't want to trespass. Once I am in the water wade fishing, that is no longer private property then right?

FYI...I am not one to litter and I don't keep the bass I just love fishing. I drive a Prius, we have solar panels on our Green house and I am also very interested in starting a stream Team (or joining) for Cane Creek around HGWY PP and do the HGWY litter control program for that stretch of PP so for the record I would only leave footprints. that part of the MArc Twain is my home and it is amazing but I must say it is disgusting to see what the "locals" just throw out the windows when driving by or leave at the Cane Creek public fishing spot right on PP. It makes me so angry.....anyways rant off...sorry....haha

I have also found a few other spots listed on the MDC website where I can fish around poplar bluff. Aldred, Beaver Lake, Sun Stephens etc. anyone have any info about these places that a rookie might need who has never been?

edit....also I am not scared of snakes and in fact I love finding then because I think they are very neat. However, are those two creeks places where I should keep an eye out for cottonmouths or are those places not secluded enough. Just moved here last year from Milwaukee so forgive my ignorance on said subjects above....

Send me a PM and I will put you in touch with my buddy who owns property on Cane creek. My brother had property on Cane creek and just sold it last year.
