Football Jig Bite

I fished Saturday from 7 PM to about 2 AM from Point 5 to the Dam. Found a really good football jig bite before dark. In the first hour I caught 9 Bass in about 15' to 27' deep on the jig. They would be loaded up in certain spots around main lake points (ledges or brush). After dark, the bite slowed until about 11 PM, and then we started getting a pretty consistent bite on craws. I tried a big worm and spinnerbait also. Had a few bites on the worm, but nothing to brag about. Overall, I was surprised how good the bite was on a night with no moon. We caught around 30 bass, but only 4 of those were keepers, the biggest of which was 3 lbs. Wouldn't have won a tournament, but just glad to be back on the water after "another" week off! Somehow, I need to find a way to fish more!

Good fishing everybody!

Had a friend fishing about the same hours you were. He thought there must have been a bow fishing tournament that night because of all the boats he saw running the banks with the bright light setup usually associated with bow fishing. Did you see the same?

Oh yeah. There were at least 3 or 4 boats down by the Dam with incredibly bright lights and the generators running so loud that I thought the Bass were going to ask them to be quiet! Since it was so dark out, these boats realy stood out even a long way off. No offense to any bow fishermen out there, but it was not a pretty sight when you are not the ones doing it. (I have done it before, and it is pretty fun)

Kevin,

Glad to hear you caught them on Jigs. That is my favorite way to catch Bass. I have been having similar luck with the worms which is NOT MUCH. I personally got away from the Football Jigs and fish another type of Jig. The Football Jigs just get hung up too much for me. The Jigs I use now are virtually snag free and stand up great. This gives the "Craw" a defensive position all the time. I have literally fished with the same Jig all summer in a particular color last year and did not lose it and believe me I throw it right IN the brush piles. I fish mostly plastic trailers but am still fond of Pork. Especially when I trim it and add Crawdad Oil.

My last trip was last Sunday Morning starting at about 4:00 A.M. Fished until about 10:00 A.M. Only caught about 8 but I found some new spots. Caught two over 16". All were close to keeper length. All fish were close to deep water and where bank changed from chunk rock to gravel.

Good Fishing Everybody,Football is on and I'll not get to go as much.

I stand corrected Walcrabass! You are right. Under those conditions I would watch football too. Sounds like you are a good father. Best of luck to your son.
