Members ChiefTIm Posted August 30, 2011 Members Posted August 30, 2011 Put in at the Shell Knob bridge on Saturday at dawn with a good buddy. We each caught a dozen or so with six or seven keepers on topwater until about 9:00. They were coming up around the boat chasing shad. Literally jumping on top of our plugs when they boiled. I caught two 12 inchers at once on a Sammy. After 9:00, we caught another half dozen on finesse worms. Came in at 11:00. That was the Up. On Sunday, we went out again at 5:00pm. After three hours, he had six with no keepers. I had none and a broken trolling motor. That brought me down. Still the best weekend of fishing I have had on TR.

abkeenan Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Lucky Craft Sammy http://www.luckycraft.com/luckycrafthome/products/topwater/sammy100.htm
Members Hillbilly Deluxe Posted September 1, 2011 Members Posted September 1, 2011 Thanks. What color do you use on The Rock? Brian www.outdoorguysradio.com
rps Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Shad colors - pearl with blue or green back, clear, bone, silver with blue or silver with black. Sammy is a good lure, but the Spro Dawg and the Excalibur Jimmy are also excellent and cheaper. You can also go old school with a spook.

Members Hillbilly Deluxe Posted September 2, 2011 Members Posted September 2, 2011 Thanks. I'm old school and have an assortment of Spooks, but might give a Sammy or one of other a try. Brian www.outdoorguysradio.com
gitnby Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Thanks. I'm old school and have an assortment of Spooks, but might give a Sammy or one of other a try. Norman's Top Dollar is also a good choice on a spinning outfit. Especially when we are seeing these smaller shad and minnows here lately. It can be worked in a number of different ways and in my mind is easier to use than a Baby spook. Still love the old Redfin, though! Have always caught bigger fish on it than any other topwater on the Rock.
chub minnow Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Yes -the topwater bite Saturday at the Knob was the best I've ever seen! We generally had our choice of 4 or 5 boils of fish to cast at. I caught all of mine on a small fluke, partner caught 'em on white crappie jigs. Hope it's that good this weekend!!
