Wayne SW/MO Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 [ There are also some two part repair materials in the automotive repair industry that are designed for plastics They may be more expensive than JB Weld and others but they are very strong and remain flexible. /quote] And would probably be perfect for the job. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Yep, I'm sure they would. The only reason I first mentioned the plastic epoxy from the big box stores is that it should be readily available just about anywhere without having to order it, and simpler to use than the Leggos or the plastic welding. I've used it a number of times on my canoes and so far the repairs are holding up okay...and it's easy enough that if the epoxy gets worn off you can just reapply it. But the other repair materials mentioned would probably be better. From what I've read, the poly plastic on the Old Town Discovery canoes is a little trickier to get epoxy and other repair materials to stick. I've never repaired one so I don't know.

I did a pretty significant repair on my Guide with G-Flex, and it's holding up perfectly...probably tougher than the poly itself. Just be sure to heat the plastic first.
