mic Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 A buddy of mine gave me matching green wing teal wings. They are really nice. Does anybody have recipes for usable flies?
jdmidwest Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Classic wet flies and winged dry flies. Small leading edge feathers for RS2 type classic flies. Leading edge of the front main wing feathers should have some small biots. The breast and flank feathers are nicely barred, did he give you any of those? They make nice dry fly wings and tails. Gavin Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 As JD said...duck wing feathers are for wet flies...different animal parts work for other things.
Kayser Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 The barred feathers are awesome for tails and wings on nymphs and dries. Just start experimenting- you'll find something that works. Also, I've seen some people use the smallest feathers (cleaned stem, tips clipped to get a V-shape) under a wingcase on big stones as legs. Just start experimenting- you could come up with a new "go to" fly. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
