Members Troutman Posted September 29, 2011 Members Posted September 29, 2011 I've been researching some fiberglass river or trout boats as some call them. I trout fish quite a bit in the winter, as well as fish for flatheads in the summer here in the Delta. Both of which run really shallow at times. I'm interested in one of these boat, with a jet drive. I've been looking on internet, and have looked at the Shawnee, and Supreme boats. Last winter, I went with a guide on a flyfishing trip, and he had a "Topwater" boat, which I was really impressed with. What do some of you think, or have had experience with. Thanks in advance.
gotmuddy Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 If you intend to run a jet a supreme is your best bed. The hull design on the jet series boats works best with the jet motors. Shawnee hulls have more of a curve to them which will hurt jet performance some. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
taxidermist Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Call Rob at Shawnee. talk to the builder of both boats! 870-404-9791. He has reworked the Shawnee molds. I was there yesterday AM talkign with him about both boats.
Ham Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 I wouldn't be unhappy with a SHawnee, Top Water, Supreme, or "#1" boat. All four are very good boats. The basic design is wonderfully spartan. Durable and low maintainence. I have a 2002 Supreme with a Merc 20 HP Jet. I'm very happy with my boat. I've fished in three states with it so far and caught literally thousands of fish out of it. gotmuddy Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Supreme had a model designed for using a jet that had a flat bottom. http://www.supremeboats.com/models/L207.html everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members Troutman Posted September 30, 2011 Author Members Posted September 30, 2011 Thanks for the feedback. I've actually talked to Rob a few times through email, he has answered every time. He's a big fan it seems of the 48's either model. I think that would fit me great with a 25 jet. I fished one the Little Red river last winter in a Topwater boat. He got us through a shoal I thought was impossible, we got on some fish that only a few with the right boat could get to, and absolutely wore them out on a sow bug. Anyways, I could not believe how shallow the water was we was going through with that topwater. I've priced them as well, they are some higher, but a neat looking boat. Decisions, decisions....lol
gotmuddy Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 A properly set up jet boat will run really skinny water ON plane. heck I can run my 9.9 in a foot of water. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
