Bman Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Well, Here it is! A 36 inch long Taney Lunker! What a fight, it took a Sculpin on 4X tippet. I nearly threw my back out for this pic. I couldn't believe the weight and strength of this fish. No the fish didn't fit in the net! only it's head...barely! Anyone up for some "Hillbilly Hand Grabbing" at Taney? The only good line is a tight line
laker67 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Hillbilly hand grabbin?? I'm settin a trotline across the big hole next trip. This is the second flathead that I have seen come from the upper lake. Cool, thanks for posting Bman.

Cool, thanks for posting Bman. second??? you must not be fishing it often enough...LOL this is probably catfish #10 Ive seen (or heard about) coming out of the trophy area.. Although this one is the biggest... I caught 3 channel cats back in 08.. and picked up (bare handed) a flathead that was laying in one of the deep holes one night after the water had dropped out.. it was probably in the 26-27in about 14lbs... Henry was with me that night I think Duane Doty caught (or saw it swimming around) a catfish or two in 08 and 09 http://www.taneycomonights.com

My country friends call it a TROUT line. The only good line is a tight line
Leonard Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 may have to start tying up ... A brown blob on a treble hook and let it set outside for a day or two... recipe: 2/0 treble hook brown 6/0 thread heavy duty brown chinelle a few piece of red chinelle (for the veins) call it "the Chicken liver" http://www.taneycomonights.com

But call it "Winner winner chicken dinner!!!" I can't imagine hooking that beast on Taney. I landed a 35 lb flathead before and it was a work out with 14 lb test. A few months ago I thought I saw a catfish at the stump by rebar. I just shrugged it off and thought I was just seeing things, lol "There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home."
laker67 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 second??? you must not be fishing it often enough...LOL You got that right Leonard.

These jokers at the lake call it "trout" also. I figure if I string one from bank to bank at the big hole, at the very least I will have a good collection of streamer and sculpin flies.
