Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 1, 2006 Root Admin Posted September 1, 2006 Now that we're past the math class... Jim- what size tippet do/did you use? Were you dead drifting the whole time? Where did you find the best sucess in your trac downstream? Thanks- Phil
Micheal Kyle Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 The midges I used were a #14 bomber and a #16 buzzer; the San Juan worms I used were about 2 1/2" in length. Most of the fish I caught were on the San Juan worms, no particular color really produced anymore than the other, though it did help to used a visible color to sight fish. Tippet used was 5X standard Frog Hair. The best two areas were the Rocking Chair hole until a drift boat came through and took it over and from the rebar hole to the #2 outlet. I was primarily looking for big browns to try at night. I saw about 10 in the 24" class and one nice healthy female fish in the 27" class, which I figured was about 7 - 8 pounds below the #2 outlet. No real monsters yet, maybe some will show up with this cooler weather setting in. jim Ming, give it up, it is just a waste of time. People only believe what they want to. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 1, 2006 Root Admin Posted September 1, 2006 You'll have to share with us what a buzzer and a bomber is... and the san juan- I'm assuming red and brown?
Bill Babler Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Not even a stretch to catch 51 in 6 hrs. If a drift lasts about 30 seconds, thats a fish every 12 drifts. Fished the restricted area today with Brad Hall from Dallas. 1 client, and he insisted that I fish. When I stopped he stopped, and said if I didn't have a fly in the water he wouldn't either. Fished for three hours in the restricted area and I had 34 and he had 16. I tied all his flies on, and released all his fish along with positioning him completely and directing his casts. Even had time to tell him to set the hook at least 20 times, and still caught the number mentioned above. If he would have lifted on all his strikes he would have easily had over 40 fish in the 3 hr. period we fished. Fished the same water on Wednesday, and worked hard to come up with 23 total with two very experenced clients that missed only a couple of fish in 4 hrs. Different day but nothing is out of the question on Taney. When you fish everyday, good things are bound to happen every once in a while. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Greg Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 King Ming I just spoke to Jim a few hours ago. He tells me you were just joking and that you are a friend of his. And also now that I have reread your original post I can see that as well. Sorry. I jumped to a hasty conclusion that you were bashing him. Jim has always been very free with advice and help to me over the past couple of years as well. It's kind of easy to misinterpet something on a board like this where you are just reading words and can't see the person's facial expression or hear their tone of voice. Again I apologize. jOrOb Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Seems to me Ming was misunderstood. Looks like we are all argueing the same thing, that 51 fish is possible (and not even a stretch) and that we believe that Jim did it. Coincidentally, I fished yesterday and managed one fish. Was it a really bad day or do I just suck??? jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Rev MacLean
Danoinark Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 JoRob, its like I told you. I wasn't there. Anytime we go together. You catch all the fish and I strike out. Danol Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Members rls1936 Posted September 2, 2006 Members Posted September 2, 2006 King, WOW, i don't know what yopu are talking about. All I said was that it doesn't matter if he caught 20 or 60. Dont call someone dishonest when you have no facts. We dont need people like you on this forum. King, sorry but you totally mis-read my post. King, sorry but you totally mis-read my post.
Don Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I used to not count fish, but I had several good days when I could not answer correctly to how many fish i caught. Now I count. The most I've caught was 50 because I left early and went home. Many other times on a good bite day, I stop and experiment instead of seeing how many I can get to the net. I was once told by an experienced flyfisherman that 80 was a bad day, 100 was a good day, and 120 plus was a great day. From my understanding there are many guys who have these results but they are not forum people. This aspect keeps me humble and keeps the learning curve in perspective. This guy fishes sunup to sundown all the time. I fished with him only once on Norfork for sunup to sundown. He called his friends that night and told them things were really tough and he caught 50 fish. I laughed so hard because I watched him have a great day while I caught 8 fish. By the way, the quantity of fish does not make the trip, it's just a measuring stick. My two most memorable days I caught 9 fish and 22 fish. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
