I was lucky enough to draw in on a quick draw for Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area on Monday, November 7th. This means that I am guaranteed to get to hunt and I can have a party of up to 4 people on this hunt. I have two open slots in my party, so if you would like to go hunting for ducks in the Middle Zone on Monday the 7th of November (only the 3rd day of the season) at Eagle Bluffs for ducks, you will need to reply to me on here. You must have a small game permit, Missouri migratory bird permit, Federal waterfowl stamp, shotgut not capable of holding more than 3 shells, waders, and camoflage.

First two people to commit get to go!

This should be a great hunt.

Thanks for the all invite Dewayne. I hope you have a good report fo all of us when you get back. Went on a road trip this morning to take a look at Four rivers. They ran a bit of water out of the lake for a couple of pools but the rest is dry and the intake at the Bates County dranige ditch is on dry bank so they cannot get water from there. So dry. Then went bu Schell osage where they ran water from the two lakes and did get some to flood there for the hunters. Not many ducks around there I could see. Not sure how the hunters are doing. In the South zone wheere I am still waiting and as soon as I am done bowhunting this week and firearms the next is out of the way I can get ready for some birds. Have a couple of small timber ponds where the woodies are bobbing for acorns. Day after Thanksgiving I will be after them. Come on rain and more cool fronts.

I have a reservation at Schell Osage Friday, first time there, have to drive across the state to get to it. What is it like up there? Timber, flooded fields, or lake blinds.

We are dry down here in the south. Otter Slough pumps water and should be alright. Duck Creek is in construction phase still and is probably only going to have ten spots or so, all timber. Field units are under construction last I heard.

Birds migrated some on Sat. Morning and I saw some coming thru this afternoon. Something is pushing them south.

JD most of the blinds are flooded fields but there are some tucked in close to the timber. I would of liked to have driven into the hunting area closer for a look see but if not a hunting participant not allowed. I live about fifteen miles from Schell and go up there messing around all the time. Last time duck hunted up there was more than 25 years ago. While driving through the campground this morning it was pretty full, about half bow hunters and the other half duck hunters,

Thanks for the info. Was wondering if we needed a boat or was shallow enough for kayaks we normally use around here. Do you know if they supply jon boats for each blind? If so, we may toss in a small motor.

Way back when I went there were boats supplied but some of the fellows in the camp today had boats so I am not sure. Can find out if you need me to. Kayaks would work well. Water filled ditches to blinds are well marked and easy to find. the times I hunted up there was with my father who had polio and we were able to use the ADA handicap blinds which had a parking place and a board walk into the blind,

I have never hunted Schell Osage, so I cant help there. Eagle Bluffs was a pretty good hunt over all. I drew pill 15 out of 16, so I pretty much hunted left overs. Picked pool 2. Not much water in the corn. Well actually, no water in the corn fields on pool 2. They are trying to pump it up. I hunted the pond in the south end of the pool and pulled down two ducks. Pools 4, 5, 8,9,and 10 did very well and have been doing very well since opening day. Rained all day and absolutely no wind. Still just hunting resident birds there and the estimated population is around 5000. Saw lots of deer, eagles, and sand hill cranes. The duck shooting was a little slow for me, but sure beat a day at the office.

JD, I haven't been there in about 7 years, but last time I was there, they didn't supply boats. Your Kayaks would be ok, but you will have a fairly long paddle if you draw out one of the blinds in the back. A jon boat can usually run fine in the boat lanes. A friend that went told me they had 90 parties last weekend. Woodie and teal shoot. Good luck!

Great. Hunting poor line on Thurs and reservation on Fri. Looks like 4 Rivers has openings if Schell falls thru on Thurs. Or we will do a little sight seeing, first time out to that neck of the woods.

Welcome to my neck of the woods JD. Good luck and let us know how you all do. If you do four rivers do you actually hunt out of the kayaks of put up a blind?
