Does anyone out there pour their own soft plastic baits? First time for me and I'm needing advice on which brand plastisol you like best. Also had some questions on adding salt.

Yes I do. I have used several brands. What I am using now is from Bear's CPC 2601 medium. It doesn't scorch in the micro like Calhoun's did for me.

What salt questions do you have?

What molds do you have?

Are you pouring or injecting?

What is the ratio of salt to plastic?

I make my own molds and am using a plunger style injector.

I'm just bought some plastisol from Jan's netcraft, have you ever used that brand?

I'm sure I have but don't remember for sure as I have been doing this for many many years.

When I use salt (which is rarely), I grind up Kosher salt because of less impurities and it stays suspended better when it is powdered. Additionally, when you use salt it will take more colorant.

Here is the ratio that I use: 1/2 cup plastic, 1/4 cup salt, 3 tbl sp softner.

Remember salt is there because of it sinking quality so stir, stir, stir, stir.

Man, if you're making your own molds, is there any way I could convince you to make some 4" sensations? I'd buy a bunch from you. They still make wing worms - basically a standard ribbon tail plastic worm or hook tail plastic worm with two wings, but they're all really long. When I was younger we used to catch a bunch of goggle eyes and bass on those little sensations but you can't hardly find them anymore. I found some at custom lure in Fayetteville and I think I bought all he had.

This is my first attempt at the mold making. I'm going to look up a 4" sensation and I'll let you know

Are you using pop, bondo, rtv, durhams or some other product to make your molds?

That is way more technical than any of my homemade resin molds or store bought for that matter.

Will the mold be wavy like in the pic.

I'd really like to see a pic of the finished product and some of the baits when you get them made. I can't visualize how you are going to get all the appendages to form when you inject. Will the injection port be in the tail or at the side someplace.

It might be worth that 400 mile round trip just to see some of them produced.

I'm panting at the screen awaiting a view of them.

If the fish doesn't think a plastic bait that looks like that is real, something is wrong...That's one heck of a mold!
