Brian Wise Posted November 23, 2011 Author Posted November 23, 2011 For the upcoming videos could you add a quick materials list at the beginning of them just in case theres something we dont recognize? THAT is where I messed up with the fast moving videos. I shot the Butt Monkey and the Circus Peanut last night and held the materials in front of the camera for a while for each material. These started off kind of out of necessity as the first one I did was of a fly that literally takes 30 minutes to tie and you can't upload a 30 minute video to youtube....so I sped it up and got all sorts of cool reviews on it. So the upcoming Galloup series will be in fast motion, but I will be holding the materials in front of the camera so everyone can see what they are as I go. Almost melted my camera last night though......those lights are HOT!! Here is the first video: My Youtube Channel
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 23, 2011 Root Admin Posted November 23, 2011 One thing- you can watch it more than once or back it up if you missed something. Brian- you might play around with editing it to normal speed when you want to show something that's detailed or showing material. But the overall idea is great. You're the perfect person to discover it.

You're the perfect person to discover it. Yeah! Ok, getting some ideas now. I am thinking, all but one of the Galloup line of flies I am going to do are articulated so I will slow it down (and literally maybe even go slow-mo at points) during the articulation. I literally held the materials in front of the camera for around 15 seconds so most of those will have around 3-4 seconds of "screen time" so I will see if that is quite long enough. Also, these will be a full blog post on my site with a full list of materials so I will copy/paste that info here too. Also, going to show an angle of these flies that I haven't seen before......... OzarkAnglers input project! Thanks guys! My Youtube Channel
Arofishing Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Eh, forget all the haters. Your videos are a reflection of your personality and I always enjoy watching them. I haven't tried to tie one of your flies yet but I never seem to have the materials either... For the record I'll watch just about any video I can get my hands on, including the dude's in the necktie .
Jeremy Hunt Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Well, let me expand on my comment. Maybe "lousy" was a poor choice of words and I should have said poor. My complaint was that it was so fast you could hardly keep up with it. I agree with your second post Brian, that many of the tying videos on the internet are so slow and overly detailed you lose interest before they are finished. But the solution is not to go to the other extreme and make them so fast that the average tyer can't keep up with all the steps. I've seen your flies in person and was quite impressed with them. I certainly look forward to seeing the videos you have planned for the winter, but I hope they are not shown in warp speed. Dave I couldn't agree more. Why make a video and go through all that trouble not to benifit from it. It's a cool way to make a vid, but who is going to learn??? If videos are well explian and your learn form them.... then I would think it's win win for everybody. People want to learn.....right? Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog

I can't stand boring videos and refuse to make boring videos....watching a guy talk and explain his day of fishing or watching someone talk about how to wind thread on a hook is bleeding boring to me. On Youtube you can actually 'see' when people click off of your videos and go watch something else...and if you make a boring video for people to learn from and they click off of your 9 minute video within the first 2 or 3 minutes....what did you teach that person? Members copfisher Posted December 11, 2011 Members Posted December 11, 2011 Boring videos suck...Brian, these videos are great. I've enjoyed your tying and guiding videos and hope to make another cameo in the guide trip movies someday. After a person has tied enough flies, I don't need the lecture series to accompany the video--in fact, I don't want the person to talk--music is better. As for "learning" from a video, there's not much you can learn from a fly-tying video once you've tied flies for over a week--other than what materials to use and what should the end product look like. Don't let the haters bring you down. I can assure you there are a lot more people who like these videos then dislike. Idea: have you ever done a fast speed tying video in reverse? That might be weird/ interesting to watch.

I tought him to learn so the person benifited from it. Different strokes for different folks, we all know that. It's all about teaching in my book. Some appreciate it, and some might like the fancy video work. I like both, but when someone clicks on a tying video I'm pretty sure he wants to learn and not look at a fancy vid about "look what I can do". But hey, just my opinion and I'm intitled to it. It's just fishing....... Accept the drift.....<>>><flysandguides.comVisit my blog
Brian Wise Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 Idea: have you ever done a fast speed tying video in reverse? That might be weird/ interesting to watch. NICE! Should do a simple Wooly Bugger or something like that! Thanks for the kind words....and I noticed a long time ago, when you get a lot of people that REALLY like what you do....there will be haters, no big deal and it's not personal. Haters just give more views to videos! Jeremy, I said a while ago that I am not into teaching fly tying with these videos. There are a massive group of accomplished fly tyers that may not know exactly how to tie a Butt Monkey for instance...they know how to palmer hackle, tie in zonker strips, stack wool, whip finish, etc....but they have never tied a Butt Monkey and they don't want to sit through 3, 9 minute videos to see how to tie it. I will be the first to say that I have watched your videos and have publicly said that, although your reputation proceeds you, I personally think you are one of the best streamer tyers in Missouri and Arkansas...yeah, I said it but it is obvious that you and I are after a totally different audience with our videos. I totally go for entertainment and quality video, with a side of teaching. I'm defenitely not "showing off" or boasting about what I can do with these videos....VERY rarely do you ever see my face and I never talk so I don't come off like I am a know it all that talks through the whole video.
