Members PSUWill Posted December 13, 2011 Members Posted December 13, 2011 Made my 1 trip to Roaring River for the year, I just can't keep interest in fishing the river for more than about 5 hours. Working the graveyard shift I left Kansas City after work at 3 a.m. to reach the park around 6 a.m. After maybe an hour of sleep I worked to wake up and gather the gear together. Fishing the main park area I managed 5 bows over 20" along with multiple smaller fish. 3 of the bigger fish were 21-22". Fishing solo and looking for bigger fish I didn't take many pictures. Seen a couple of the bigger fish I was looking for, but couldn't get them to react. I then went below the park and continued to catch lots of smaller fish. As for my bait, I went BIG.

Pretty easy to take a picture of a 17 inch fish, post it, and claim you caught "5 bows over 20". How convenient you were by yourself when all this happened. Also if RR can't hold your interest how did you summon the motivation to drive down from KC in the middle of the night. I know we are all fisherman but we should at least post truthful reports here. You are probably one of the guys I saw at Capps Creek last Sunday carrying around an empty bucket. Please share your secret BIG bait with us so we can all catch 21's and 22's all day.
mhall02 Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Where are you in that pic? That doesn't look like any place in the park.

I guess next time I will let the fish flop around on the grass and gravel while I dig out my camera to take a picture. Roaring River is definitely a great place for catching, but being how they are all stocked and missing fins takes some fun out of it for me. I prefer crane trout but heard some were spawning. I have caught enough 22" trout I don't need pictures of all of them. Now if I break that mark and get a 23"+ I will pull out the camera. Below the park the fish were all smaller stockers <12". I choose to keep silent on the bait I was throwing as I can't believe they ate it so well why would anyone else. The picture was taken in zone 2 at the run just above the handicap fishing area. I was at capps with a bucket that sunday, but it wasn't empty long. We both limited out while releasing more for future trips. Those fish were caught on a 1/16 ounce jig.

Well, he certainly is better than me and I defiantly hate it, but yes we are friends. I was the one at Capps carrying the empty bucket on Sunday...for awhile at least. I can confirm that the secret bait is a 12 inch power worm threaded on a 1/2 oz spinner bait with a single Indiana blade. Sorry PSUwill knowing was eating me up inside.

It's bad enough when you get beat up by the fish. I have fishing buddies who make me carry the empty bucket as well. Good to see a little entertainment on this forum again. Thanks for your post.
