LittleRedFisherman Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Broke the new boat in right today, had another pretty good day fishing, and got to run her through some shoals. OMG, how shallow this thing runs blows me away, been wanting one for years, guess it was worth the wait. I was catching these smallmouths on a flyrod, my buddy was using spinning gear, some on jigs, but he was doing really good with a crawfish crankbait throwing it on the downsteam side of big rocks. Big one of the day was 17 and a half inches. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
KCRIVERRAT Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Good for you bud! What kind of boat did you break in? And what river? Nice smallies. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 RiverRat, my new boat is a Supreme L48 made in Mountain Home Arkanasas. I was fishing on the Eleven Point River today. I have ran the boat before here at home last week on a bottomland river near my home, but I wanted to run her up some shoals and riffles today, and it did today what I wanted it for. I've got a 25hp Jet on it, seems to fit it about right... There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Trout Commander Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Nice fish. A 17 incher is a ton of fun on a 4wt! Hold on tight to that TFO. The 11pt likes to eat them. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack

A 17 incher is fun on any kind of rod. I have caught smallmouth on everything from a 6 wt fly rod to a medium heavt 20 lb momo bait casteing and I think that ther is nothing that compares to Smallmouth on crankbaits. I don't think its the most effective way but the most fun way when they 'Nock the fire out of it"
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Commander, I think I saw your post earlier in the week about looking for a TFO on the bottom, I did see a paddle that somebody had lost, but was a little deep to try to get. Yeah, that's the only flyrod I have at the moment, and I got it to catch trout on the LIttle Red, those smallies sure do make ur bend, but man is it fun. And like the above poster said, my buddy was using cranks, and he got addicted to that pretty fast, however, the bigger fish were coming on the jigs. Gonna try to go back in a week or two, and of course try some more smallies, but also want to hit some trout. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

Since the paddle leash wrapped around my leg it stayed with me. Gear almost always out fishes the fly when it comes to smallmouth but, catching them on the fly is a ton more fun and a much greater challenge to me so I leave the gear at home. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Smalliebigs Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Dude, what a sweet rig!!!! I can't tell you how jealous I am. I have been looking at buying a jet for long time now and I think I have finally found the person to custom build one for me.I fished out of a Supreme for a week a couple of years back at Taney and man was that a really nice glass boat. I'm going with a Missouri made hull that is aluminum so I can start Blazing some trails. I learned from a good friend who has been showing some precious pieces of info for jet boating on rivers that a tiller is the most accurate and safe way to jet on smaller rivers. You also save on weight without a console. That is a Very sweet rig you are going to create some fun times:have-a-nice-day:
Members creekin bassnerd Posted December 15, 2011 Members Posted December 15, 2011 Nice fish. All I ask is that you don't run over me while Im in my canoe, Ive had some close calls on the 11 pt with jet jerks, seems people dont care about river etiquette and just zoom by you at full speed with no regard. Nothing ruins a serene environment more than a loud motor getting closer and closer, seemingly coming right at you, and you dont even know if the guy sees you or not. It can be nerve racking and to be honest, pisses me off. Please respect the canoes and good fishing.
LittleRedFisherman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 I hear where your coming from, don't worry, don't plan on being a jet jerk, a little common sense goes a long way when running a boat, and some just seem to sometimes have a lack of it. I was fishing in a drift boat with a guy the other day, and a jet went by, he slowed down and and was respectful as he went by, didn't bother us in the least. What is funny after he went by the fishing picked up again, must of stirred the fish up. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
